“Every game we’ve got to get a result”: Liverpool Ramblers take control of the LOBAL Premier Division with a decisive 3 points away to Sefton Park Rangers

Liverpool Ramblers have defeated Sefton Park Rangers 3-0 at the Tiber 3G Football Centre, in a tight game categorised by mistakes and missed chances.

Coming into the game, the Ramblers had a streak of 8 wins in a row, sitting 2 points off first-placed Huyton Stanley, with just as many games in hand, so the Oranje knew it was a big task that lay ahead.

The Ramblers player-manager Kyle Egan said: “It was a brilliant performance all round really. We had to dig in in the first half, they are a good team, but we rode out the hard moments and got the goals when it mattered.”

The home side’s manager, Andrew McEvoy, said: “All credit to the Ramblers, they were the better side throughout. We flattered to deceive mostly with our lads. We had some chances that we didn’t take and you’re ultimately going to get punished; the story of our season really.”

In the first half, it was the home side making all the moves. They looked to play down the left-hand side through Ben Stevans and Edi Ubido, getting in behind often. But the end product wasn't there, and the Ramblers did indeed punish them, scoring a glancing header from a wide free-kick.

Going in at half-time, Sefton will surely have felt hard done by with the number of chances they were not able to take, and early in the second it was clear the momentum had shifted.

The Ramblers were starting to dominate possession, and were creating many more chances, largely through the brilliant dribbling skills of Greg Blease. The SPR defence struggled to deal with his close control and direct dribbling.

It took 12 minutes in the second period for Liverpool Ramblers to double their lead. So-far solid centre-back Jake Nolan took a loose touch which was latched onto- and slotted away. Another 12 minutes later and they made it three, with Beale playing a perfectly weighted pass, that was once again slid into the side-netting.

A win on the road is never something to frown upon, as Egan agreed: “We are delighted but we are taking it game by game, week by week.

“Every game we’ve got to get a result basically; the other two teams chasing us seem to win every game, so we just have to win every game.”

In their next Premier Division fixture, they take on league title challengers Huyton Stanley at home, which could be seen as an early title decider, whilst Sefton Park Rangers take on St Margaret’s Old Boys.
