Round Up 24 December 2011
CARLSBERG WEST CHESHIRE A.F.L.
MATCH ROUND UP W/E 24.12.2011
The majority of those clubs who were willing to be given fixtures in the run up to Christmas were thwarted by the weather. Christmas Eves six scheduled encounters were all postponed to a later date and only two of the preceding Wednesdays four matches were completed. Each of the two that went ahead on that evening was of some significance. Ashville regained top spot in Division 1 in emphatic style thanks to their 6-0 hammering of current champions West Kirby. Although Kirby made the brighter start, one effort clipping the top of the bar, once the hosts went in front in the 17th minute, there was only going to be one winner. A rare mistake by Kirby keeper Khalid AlSamarraie allowed Chris Barrow to display the virtues of always following up a seemingly lost cause when he slipped the loose ball into the net. Just before the break the same player further punished his former club when squeezing the ball home at the near post following a left wing corner. Kirbys Christmas goose was really cooked when Ashville netted twice early in the 2nd period. The first of these came as a result of an unfortunate own goal following a Tim Bigland shot and within 2 minutes Steve Connor executed a smart finish when latching onto a through ball. As the game drew to a close matters got worse for Kirby when, with Connors completing a double and Bigland also registering, AlSamarraie was sent off for a last man tackle and Lee Gibson also took an early bath after receiving a 2nd yellow card.
On the same evening Christleton were able to lever themselves free of three other sides on 13 points at the bottom of the table thanks to a hard earned draw at Vauxhall Motors Reserves. The hosts made most of the early running and Craig Kearns was the man to give them the lead. Christleton bounced back and leveled courtesy of Sean Johnson. Louis Hughes restored the Vauxhall lead but if they thought they were on the way to victory they were made to think again by Steve Irwin. The Christleton striker had bagged both goals when his side had claimed a 2-0 victory when the sides had met in October and on this occasion he popped up with an equalizer to complete the 2-2 scoreline.
Two games are scheduled for the forthcoming Saturday [31st December]. Upton AA will be aiming to climb away from Division 1s lower reaches when they play host to an Ellesmere Port outfit hoping to arrest a worrying slump in form kick off 12 noon. With games in hand Heswall understandably believe that they are in a false position in the table and will be put to the test by visitors Cammell Laird Reserves who have themselves overcome a bad start to the season kick off 2.00 p.m.
On Monday 2nd January the following 4 Division 1 fixtures are scheduled;-
Ashville v Marshalls [3.00 p.m.]
Christleton v Chester Nomads [2.00 p.m.]
Mossley Hill Ath. V Willaston [2.00 p.m.]
West Kirby v Vauxhall Motors Res. [2.00 p.m.]
