Hampshire Junior A Cup
Tadley Calleva FC ‘A’ recahed the last eight of the Hampshire A’ Cup after disposing of their Andover League opponents SparTen FC with a 7-1 victory. Marksman Kye Theodore was on target again, helping himself to four of the goals. It was midfielder Stephan Burgess who opened the scoring in the 20th minute following a cross from Andy Johnson. Lee Champion headed the second from a Walkley free kick and before half time Theodore had completed a straight hat trick for a five goal advantage. Early in the second half the Andover side pulled a goal back, but this was the end of their chances as Theodore added another in the 72nd minute and the final goal came via Peter White following a strong run by Luke Allison, whose shot was parried and White followed up to net.
Hook FC travelled to the Isle of Wight and made their exit well beaten 3-0 by Ryde Saints FC. Although the pitch was very heavy, there were no complaints from the Hook FC camp who looked stale following he long lay off. Ryde, who had disposed of Basingstoke Labour Club in the last round and reached the Final last season, were a good side said Hook FC spokesman Dave Morris and deserved to win. Jon Noakes had a good chance from a cross by Morgan Davies but shot over the bar and Charlie Page had a good effort cleared off the line, but at half time Hook were trailing when a corner was not cleared. Hook pressed for the equalizer, but injuries to Dan Mellors and Pete Silvester hampered their efforts and the second for Ryde came in the 70th after a slip at the back and then Ryde netted a third before the end.
Hampshire Junior ‘B’ Cup
It is Tron FC who go into the Semi Final of the Hampshire ‘B’ Cup after beating Basingstoke United in a penalty shootout that they won 4-1 to go through. However it was United looking the more likely team to win when they were leading 3-1 with 20 minutes to play. They went ahead in the 12th minute when Tom Hartley scored from a penalty for handball. Sam Nicholls beat keeper James Sallows with a 18 yard free kick to level, but a mix-up in midfield led to Joe Cook sending Charlie Smith clean through in the 40th minute to put United back in front. In the 48th minute Tron were awarded a penalty, but this time Sam Nicholls blasted over the bar and his team were to pay for the error as ten minutes later Smith scored again with Cook again laying on the chance. Facing defeat Tron made tactical changes and pressed United hard, and in the 74th minute pulled a goal back. A good move started by Barney Powell, led to Lorne Howard playing through for Richard Kalwarczyk to finish with a sweet left foot volley from 10 yards, making it 3-2. The equalizer came in the 83rd minute. Johnny Ervin down the left flank beat two men and placed a nice centre, it was dummied by Kalwarczyk and Jamie Ballantyne was in position to have an easy tap in. This led to a penalty shoot out where Sam Nicholls, Howard, Ross Harwood and Mikey Thomas were successful for Tron and Hartley was the only United player to beat keeper Adam Aimable.
North Hants May Cup
Overton United FC ‘A’ entertained Kings Somborne and were beaten 3-2 after the referee played extra time in error. The North Hants DFA have ruled that this match must be replayed on the 30th JanuaryThere was no joy for Sherborne St John FC in their visit to South Wonston Swifts FC, returning with a 2-1 defeat. Although it was a closely fought game, Sherborne should be little disappointed as both goals scored by the Andover League side came in the last five minutes of the game. It was defences in charge mostly, with chances rare for both teams and even the goal scored by Sherborne for a half time lead came from an own goal by Nick Bender. Alex Izzo had a goal disallowed for offside and James Lovell thought he had scored the second only be pulled up for foul. The disastrous last few minutes saw the Sherborne exit.
North Hants Junior Cup Quarter Finals.
There was surprise results in the North Hants Junior Cup where three of the Basingstoke Division Two teams won through to the Semi Finals after beating sides from higher divisions. Divisions One Hampshire Irons FC visited Herriard Sports FC and came home with a 1-0 defeat. It was their former striker Chris Dobbie who scored the lone goal that saw their exit. Matt Goodman hit the post and Adam Francis the bar as Herriard attacked, but it was in midfield where Goodman and Alex Roberts were prominent for them. The goal that settled this tie came in the 51st minute when Dobbie converted a penalty kick after he had been fouled in then box. Irons had enough chances to have pulled the game their way, but Stephen Woods, having only his second game in goal, saved everything Irons threw at him.
There was an even bigger shock where bottom of Division Two Winklebury Wizards FC knocked out Division One Basingstoke Athletic FC with a 4-3 victory, the winner coming from Adam Bartlett. It was stalemate until the 47th minute when Scott Large put Wizards in front following a 30 yard free kick taken by Dan Costen. Athletic soon equalized with a header from Lee O’Grady after the first effort was saved by keeper Gavin Alexander. On the hour Brad McGuigan put away a cross from Greg Adams to restore the Wizards lead, but Athletic came back strongly with goals from Michael Borbely and Ryan Evans to go ahead with twenty minutes left to play. In the 77th Large scored again for Wizards to level and then came the winner with three minutes left to play. Excellent play by Alex Stevens, resulted in his cross being flicked into the net by Bartlett to see them through to the Semi Finals where they will play the winners of the all Andover League clash between SparTen FC and Over Wallop FC.
TDI Group FC also won through to the Semi Finals where they will play Herriard Sports FC away. This is really a boost for Graham Jenkins. Although facing Herriard in the Semi Finals will be a tough ask, they do at least have a chance of silverware this season. It was CK Andover FC whom they played in Andover and they returned with a 3-0 victory. It was goalless in the first half, although both Ashley Sargeant and James Brown went close and Danny Brown forced a fine save. Connor Morey and Burchett were excellent in midfield, stopping plenty of attacks. In the 70th minute Graham Jenkins was on the end of a James Brown centre to half volley into the net. In the 80th Hugo Carlos lobbed in the second from a Richie Budd assist and it was Carlos with the third, another lob after the keeper could only parry the cross from Davidson Andrade.
