Division Two rivals, Huyton Rovers, with efforts from Danny Wilson, Derek McShane, Adam Evans and an own goal, secured their passage to the 3rd round, after they eclipsed Highfield FC 4-1, and it was celebration time for Marshalls Res., Jacob Cunliff, Brendon Ndlovu, Elliot Hey and Greg Kettlewell sharing the goals in Saturday's 4-0 decision over Mersey Harps. Maghull Res.' 3-0 win against Forefield Rangers, was confirmed by a goal apiece from Shaun Robinson, Sam Burke and Adam Wood, while on target for Division Three outfit, FC Kirkby, in their 2-1 win over Blackbrook, were Charlie Bennett and Adam Bowe. On the minus side, it was the end of the road for Rainhill Town Res., who suffered a 5-0 defeat at the hands of Collegiate Old Boys.
Saturday's LCFA Saturday Youth Cup 1st round action saw South Liverpool progress after they beat AFC Liverpool 2-1, with goals from Steve Swindells and Charlie Garnell. AFC Knowsley exited the competition after losing the penalty shootout 4-2 to Britannia U17. The score at full time was 2-2, Cohan Campbell and Elliott Holmes Knowsley scorers.
On the domestic scene, it was business as usual for current Division One pacesetters, Maghull, who were anchored to an 8-1 win at Rainhill Town, by a four timer from Darren Brannigan and a hat trick from Adam Brooks. The hosts had Ant Dunleavy on the mark. Nearest rivals, Mossley Hill Ath., stayed five points behind but with three games in hand, after efforts from Caleb Jones (2) Connor Anderson, Liam Bott and Owen Cassidy cemented a 5-1 result over Ellesmere Port Town who had Owen Ainscough in reply. Despite a smart double from Connor Doyle, Mersey Royal capitulated 3-2 at home to Chester Nomads who were elevated to tenth place in the table, and it was a similar tale of woe for Aintree Villa who scored through Jamie Alty and Liam Van Gelder but went down 6-2 to replies from third placed FC Bootle's Jacob Jones (3) Dylan Westerside, Isaac Jones and Shaun Harris. Elsewhere, the points were shared, after an effort from Vauxhall Motors Res.' Zak Prescott was negated by a goal from Marshalls' Jack Ward.
In Division Two, Mallaby eroded South Liverpool Res.' lead at the top to three points, thanks to a hard fought 4-2 victory over South Sefton Borough, with Tom Edge, Ellis Byrne, Jack Ireland and Jack Brown finding the net. Alex O'Connor and Salim Djabi bagged the visitors' consolations. Third placed challengers, Hooton, with efforts from Joel Whalley(3) Cole Saunders and Adam Smith posted a 6-0 result at Higher Bebington Kelma while fourth placed Runcorn Sports maintained interest, after beating Neston Nomads 6-2.
Chester Nomads Res. enhanced their bid for promotion from Division Three, when doubles from Cam Clark and Connor Davies coupled with an effort from Bobby Bain, sparked a 5-0 rout of Capenhurst Villa Res. and saw the hosts move to within seven points of current leaders, FC Kirkby with a game in hand. Heswall U23's went one better, by beating Frodsham Park JFC 6-0, courtesy of strikes from Tom Davies (2) James Hawkins, Lewis Bimpson , Jude Rowley and Shawn Cherera. Two goals from Zach Comer, together with efforts from Mike Hindley and Jack Wheatley proved to no avail for Runcorn Sports Res, who fell foul of Groves Ath, the visitors emerging 5-4 victors thanks to replies from Joe Humphries (2) Corey Beavan (2) and Max Percival and an own goal earned West Kirby Res, maximum returns from their visit to Helsby Res.
