Ian Thorne, 5 for Cow...

Four Through In Senior... Four of our Clubs made it through in the Herts Senior Cup 2nd Round, whilst three went out, writes Darren “Statto” Jones (statto@cssfl.info).

Dun Cow were biggest winners, battering Old Elizabethans 8-0 with Ian Thorne hitting five. Jim Bywater (two) and Danny McIver also netted. Adam Furness failed to reach the target for a change.

MBDA bounced back after successive league defeats saw them concede ten. Ashley Kersey’s brace took him to 11 for the season, Sam Harwood (two) and Kyle Watson were also on target as Grange United were beaten 5-2 in a good team performance by the young side. Jon Lewys at 24 is the oldest outfield player of the 20 signed on.

An exciting final quarter saw Almond Tree United come from 2-1 down with ten men to go through. Cassiobury Rangers lead at half-time, but Nick Collins equalised before Steve Reilly was sent-off for a second yellow card. Moments later, they seemed down and out when conceding again. However, with great spirit, they reshaped and took the game to their hosts. Collins struck his second with twenty minutes to go before Carl Lingwood was up-ended in the box, he stepped up and comfortably struck the ball home for the final and they held on despite a late onslaught.

Andrew Levy and David Iwediuno were on target as FC Nirankari won 2-1 at Pymmes Brook.

Broadhall went down 3-2 at Skew Bridge, Scotty Durham and Rhys Hoenes grabbed their goals.

Arena-Group were beaten 3-1 by previous winners Ashwell. Russell Cox’s 11th goal of the season wasn’t enough.

Vision came to town and won 6-1 against St Nicholas. Dan Culling scored the consolation.

Marquis of Lorne maintained their place at the top of Division 1 in a feisty match with Putterills. Morning signing Joe Delasalle’s brace did most of the damage, whilst Jamie Campany added the other. Allan Johnston replied.

TC United won a tight contest to stay second. The best chance of tight first-half saw Perry Thompson tipped a Terry Lock pile driver on to the crossbar. AJS Tyres Broadhall took the lead ten minutes after the break as Andy Lee fired a brilliant dipping volley in to the top corner of the net. However, TC’s new signing Vince Kernaghan converted Lewis White's cross for the equaliser. Kernaghan doubled his tally when he rifled a shot from twenty yards into the top corner via a deflection off captain Brad Westall's head, a shame for the lad who otherwise had a storming game at the heart of the defence on his 21st birthday. Lock then sealed the game with a fine strike from distance after seizing on a sloppy pass out of defence before
Joe Lee turned in brother Andy's driven cross to make it 2-3, but it wasn’t enough.

Coopers United moved up two places into third after beating a nine-man Odyssey. There were braces for Steve Harris, Ben Weldon and Danny Hillard. Mark Davis also scored.

MKS Carpentry started much the better team and hit the post early on, one of a few chances. However, the were to rue them as a ball out of the FC Mallard defence was laid off by Si Parnell, who found Steve Welch, who then found Gav Bowler, he crossed to Si Jervis, who chested the ball down and got a toe to the ball to knock it past the ‘keeper despite the efforts of Ray Downes on the line. After the break, persistence from James Cumberland saw his backheel find Jervis, he squared for Charlie Lawson to wriggle free and hit a deflected shot home for 2-0, despite suffering with cramp in both legs. Anthony Lanni pulled a goal back after Marc Dunn's initial save went back to him. MKS had the ball in the net, but an equaliser was ruled out as Josh Dance had put the ball in with his hand.
