SHROPSHIRE FA LAUNCHES IT’S SEARCH FOR 2018 GRASSROOTS FOOTBALL HEROES
The 2018 Community Awards are now open for nominations. The awards recognise and celebrate grassroots volunteers across the UK who make a real difference to their communities.
The Awards aim to recognise and reward grassroots clubs, coaches and volunteers across the country who keeps the national game alive. Nominees can be from any walk of life and the Shropshire County FA is calling on locals to nominate their unsung heroes who have gone above and beyond in the name of football.
Shropshire FA CEO Roy Waterfield is calling on local communities across the UK to nominate those grassroots heroes who have made a real impact; “The Shropshire FA have been staging our Annual Community Awards since 2010. With the help and support from our sponsors this celebration of the achievements of thousands of volunteers in sustaining grassroots football is our way of shining a light on their incredible contribution to the nations favourite team sport and thanking them for helping develop the game.”
Anyone can be nominated for an award; from coaches and caretakers to club secretaries and fund raisers, anyone whose selflessness and commitment allows children to enjoy grassroots football in a safe, friendly and welcoming environment and without discrimination.
Darren Beech, Football Development Team Leader at the Shropshire FA said “The Shropshire FA has been supporting grassroots football in Shropshire since 1877. The Community Awards once again has allowed me to see the continued efforts of hundreds of unsung heroes that go into making sure young players of all ages, genders and abilities reach their potential. Volunteers are the lifeblood of sustaining and developing grassroots clubs and the Community Awards recognise the vital contribution they make, giving their time and dedication for the love of the sport. Football brings people together, it allows kids to have fun, be social, make new friends and get active.”
The awards, which take place at the Lord Hill, Shrewsbury on Friday 29th June 2018 have ten categories including the Respect Club of the Year, Coach of the Year, Outstanding Contribution to Adult Football & Best Inclusive Programme.
