McDougall Cup Final Bridgehouse 2, Victoria Cross 2 (*aet) Bridgehouse won on penalties
Once the tears and the ink have dried on an emotional night at Dagenham & Redbridge, Victoria Cross will look back with pride and know they more than contributed to an epic final.
In a game notable for some exceptional pace and skill, we witnessed a passionate crowd willing on their teams to put in a monumental effort in an effort to secure the trophy.
Victoria Cross took the lead, but Bridgehouse came back. They took the lead again with just a few minutes left, but the new Third Division Champions, Bridgehouse, somehow found the reserves to throw everything forward and benefit from a misjudgement that led to an equalising last-minute penalty.
Don't get me wrong, the Second Division side had a slight edge throughout the entire game, but Bridgehouse knew they had the talent to get something from the game.
As both teams tired and cramp hit most of the players, a penalty shoot-out ensued to determine the Cup winners.
Both teams took some quality spot-kicks and neither keeper actually touched the ball. Only two kicks missed their target before sudden death eventually brought home a League & Cup double for Bridgehouse and heartbreak for Victoria Cross and their massively vocal support.
For Bridgehouse, they made it three trophies within the ESFC in the last two years and are looking a quality side. They will be a force in Division Two, for certain, next season.
