Alan Kenney...absolute freak goal in MBDA victory...

Thursday night...

Thursday saw a pivotal game in the Premier Division. Mallard steamed into a three-goal lead at half-time courtesy of a Craig Reynolds penalty, a volley from Tom Henry and a Ryan Skeggs own goal. Champions Dun Cow replied through Adam Furness, but it wasn’t enough as defensively Mallard were immense and a great work ethic from the team ensured the defence stood firm. They effectively need a point against Unity Nirankari to be crowned champions.

In Division One, King Pin United secured second place and automatic promotion to the Premier, which caps off a fantastic last three years with consecutive promotions in each one. Jamie Kellett got the Pin on their way when he strode out from centre-back to start and finish the move with a great finish. The lead was soon doubled as Adam Bannister nodded home from a corner. However, they were pegged back before half-time when Putterills converted through a Dave Banks penalty. Callum Rowe's sweet cross-field pass found Dale Chester who grabbed the third with a good finish before Dave Holmes rounded things off in the dying moments with a strike from the edge of the box.

MBDA stepped into a spare slot vacated by another team short of players to play their third Frank Neville Memorial Cup game. Stevenage Colts Old Boys took the lead on the night to level overall through Pete Freeman. However, Alan Kenney hit a freak effort from 35 yards which bounced off the uneven ground and over the ‘keeper before top scorer Ashley Kersey put the ball through the ‘keepers legs to give them a win on the night to boot. They have the required nine points, but goal difference is the key and other teams could still have a say.
