Wirral DFA Senior Cup holders, Capenhurst Villa, progressed to the semi-finals of this season's competition, following Saturday's 7-0 eclipse of rival Go2Day West Cheshire League outfit, Poulton Vics. The Division One side confirmed the result over their Division Three counterparts inspired by a Steve Rowlands hat trick. Congratulations to Maghull and FC Bootle who negotiated their LCFA Saturday Challenge Cup third round ties in style. In Division One, Ashville Res. ended a barren spell and recorded their fifth win of the season, when Leon Jones and Ben Leeman found the net, in a 2-1 triumph over basement outfit, Litherland Remyca Res., who had Anthony Griffiths in reply. Vauxhall Motors Res. eased their way closer to mid table sanctuary thanks to a 2-0 result at Rainhill town with Zak Prescott and Will Mountfield on the mark and it was celebration time for Helsby who posted a 4-0 decision over Aintree Villa, highlighted by a Connor Lindsay hat trick. Owen Kucharski was the other scorer. Fourth placed Newton fell further behind in the race for the title, after losing 4-1 at Ellesmere Port Town, who sealed the issue with efforts from Sahim Kashif (2)Todd Reid and Emmanuel Olaitan. The visitors consolation came from Dom Earle.
Saturday's Division Two action saw Hooton return to winning ways when goals from Owen Kelsey(2) Ben Lennon, Joel Whalley and Matty Westhead anchored the third placed challengers to a 5-2 victory over a youthful Maghull Res., who responded through Adam Wood and Shaun Sandison. Andy Simpson netted for Higher Bebington Kelma but still finished on the losing side when replies from Daryl Hellon and Ant Bradshaw earned visitors Huyton Rovers a precious 2-1 win. Elsewhere, the points were shared, after efforts from Marshalls Res.' Josh Lavender and Joe McGowan were cancelled out by replies from Neston Nomads' Connor Horrigan and Nathan Davidson. Division Three leaders, FC Kirkby, scored through Brendan Rawcliffe and Ethan Hjghton but failed to consolidate their position at the top, after they lost 3-2 at home to third placed promotion rivals, Chester Nomads Res. Stephen Butler (2) Zach Comer (2) and Reece Jones bagged the goals as Runcorn Sports Res. won 4-0 at local rivals, Frodsham Park JFC.
