Round up 04 December 2010
CARLSBERG WEST CHESHIRE AFL
MATCH ROUND UP W/E 4th DECEMBER 2010
League Fixture Secretaries are well aware that the British weather is as reliable as a promised vote from a FIFA delegate and this years early arrival of a cold snap is beginning to affect the scheduled fixture programme. After only three games taking place on the previous weekend all matches involving Carlsberg West Cheshire League clubs this Saturday were wiped out. Thankfully prior to this un-natural break many clubs had completed at least half of their league games. However District and County FA cup ties have now fallen behind schedule which will have an inevitable knock-on effect on other fixtures. The single Cheshire Amateur Cup 3rd round tie outstanding sees holders West Kirby yet to face fellow Division 1 opponents Christleton and after two postponements and under County Cup rules the game is now rearranged for the coming weekend with the scheduled venue being switched to the Chester clubs Little Heath ground. Which ever of these sides makes progress will join just three other West Cheshire outfits at the last eight stage. This is by far the lowest representation at the ¼ final stage of the competition enjoyed by the League for many years as recently there have been at least six West Cheshire teams featuring. Already through are Ellesmere Port of Division 1 while Ashville and Bronze Social fly the flag for Division 2. As it happens all four representatives have been kept apart in the draw for games set to take place on Saturday January 8th. Across the water West Cheshire teams whose games in the Liverpol FA Challenge, Intermediate and Junior Cup competitions were postponed will all hopefully complete those fixtures this coming Saturday.
Congratulations go to Karl Williamson team boss of New Brighton who has won the Carlsberg Manager of the Month award for November. During the month Karl steered his team to four victories in as many outings beginning with a 3-2 home victory over Maghull Reserves. Two more League successes followed thanks to a 4-0 defeat of Heswall Reserves and a 3-1 win over Hale, results that pushed New Brighton into third place in Division 2. Karls 100% record for the month was completed when he led his charges into the semi finals of the Haworth and Gallagher Bowl courtesy of a 2-1 2nd Round victory over AFC Bebington. There is great interest in the competition for Manager of the Month now in its 17th season and Karl will be presented with his award at a future home game.
As previously reported the Carlsberg West Cheshire League became the 1st Step 7 League in the country to gain FA Charter League status. The Charter Standard programme was introduced by the FA with the aim of improving the quality in standard of all aspects of operating a football club with welfare a high priority. The Leagues milestone was reached when over 90% of member clubs had attained their own Charter Standard. In recognition of this excellent achievement those clubs acquiring the standard have been rewarded by the League in having their full League Subscription fees for the current season waived. The relevant shortfall in the Leagues income has been underwritten by the West Cheshire League Trust and a cheque to cover the amount was handed over by Trust Treasurer, Ken Halsall, to the League at the recent clubs Council Meeting.
