Alton Town 7 Overton United 1.

On Tuesday evening Alton Town won through to the Final of the Basingstoke Senior Open Cup by beating Hampshire Premier Division side Overton United 7-1 and will now meet the winners of the Hungerford Town v Rising Sun DC Semi Final, to see who meets them in the Final.

The Combined Counties side went into the lead after just two minutes when a cut back led to Harry Little having an easy tap in.

Play swiftly switched to the other end and a cross from the left from Oliver Bone led to Chris Lavisher beating keeper Aaron Bufton with just five minutes gone, however the very square looking Overton defence were trailing again within two minutes. A shot from Darryl Blackman was blocked and the rebound fell to Lewis Osborne, again an easy finish
The visitors defence was now being overrun and by the 23rd minute they conceded two more netted by Osborne and Kieran Lenachan, making it 4-1 and game over.

There was more problems for Overton when their goalkeeper, SeanO’Brien, who was blameless for the goals, went off injured and was replaced by James Jupp in the 40th minute, but before the break Overton should have reduced the arrears when Bole was right through, rounded the keeper and then with an open goal somehow shot wide from three yards out.

There was certainly an improvement in the second half when Nick Jupp broke through and keeper Bufton did well to save in a one on one and Overton matched their opponents until in the 75th minute when a very good cross- shot from full back Shane McWilliams beat the substitute keeper.

In the 82nd minute Overton substitute Dave Parry broke through, but fired his chance over the bar, but in the last few minutes Alton pressed and two goals from sub. David Browning, gave the final score a flattering look and really not deserving after the second half performance from United.
