Basingstoke Athletic FC walked away with the Division Two title last season with just two defeats in their twenty played matches, but in the opening match in Division One they faced Twenty Ten FC and suffered a 4-0 defeat. I went to Brighton Hill to see this game. In only the second minute of the game Basingstoke Athletic FC went a goal down. A corner kick was taken by Jordon Wainwright, it fell in the crowed six yard box and after a scramble in the goal mouth Franklyn Spacagna forced the ball into the net. Only a fine save by keeper James Lounton stopped Joe Hill making it two nil almost immediately. Twenty Ten FC made it 2-0 in the 23rd minute when a long throw in from Joe Osborne eluded Ryan Evans and Franklyn Spacagna headed past the helpless Lounton. Athletic looked unable to get their game together and in the 45th minute came a third Twenty Ten goal. Joe Hill was the scorer, who beat Lounton with a long range shot from the right flank. Athletic had their chances, but poor finishing was their downfall and they conceded the fourth in the 57th minute when a cross from Jordan Wainwright fell to Carl Pearson and he shot in off the post to end the contest.
The other promoted club was Basingstoke Labour Club FC and they got off to a much better start by beating Hampshire Irons FC 5-3 at Brighton Hill.  After scoring 25 goals in Division Two last season for Labour Club, striker Cameron George hit a hat trick in this game, showing that he can still score goals in this higher division. It was however their new capture from Winklebury Wizards FC ‘Josh Dickens’ who opened the scoring in the tenth minute. Cameron George soon beat Irons keeper ‘Gavin Curry’ to make it 2-0 but Irons fought back before the break when Kieran Dent ran onto a ball from Craig Hopper to score. Into the second half and Irons drew level with neat chip from Dent. Within five minutes Labour Club were back in front when a move between Rylan Willows and Cameron George led to Graham Leaney netting.  George soon made it 4-2, but Irons came back again when Ben Woods put away a free kick taken by Tom L.’Heureux to make it 4-3. The comeback did not last and George netted his third within a minute to ensure Labour Club all three points. 
Overton United FC ‘A’ won the division last season, but Hook FC proved too strong for them at Berrydown; as they endured a 3-0 defeat in their opening game. It was very tight first half, but Hook managed to go in front after 25 minutes when an error by Kieron Fuller allowed Adam Haig to send a good ball through to Dan Mellors, who took on the Overton keeper, rounded him and slotted home. In the 65th minute came the second. A corner kick taken by Dave White found Andy Parker, unmarked at the far post who tucked it away. The third came in the 80th minute.  Kieron Fuller again lost the ball in a poor position, and his mistake led to Aaron King chipping Overton keeper Dease Kerrison from 25 yards out. Archer in the Hook goal had little work, but did make an excellent save late in the game from a Sam Allen effort. 
Tadley Calleva FC ‘A’ are one of the three remaining teams left in the league from the old Premier Division and they proved much too good for DJS Telecoms FC in this fixture. Kye Theodore was again in good form, scoring four in this 6-2 victory at Silchester. It was DJS that took the lead in the third minute through Pete Lomax following a long throw which was not dealt with.  A free kick by Ashley Saunders was headed on by Lee Champion for Theodore to open his account in the tenth minute, but Carlos Gonzalez again replied for DJS to give them a 2-1 lead.  By the 25th Tadley drew level when a long throw in from Champion was headed home by Peter White.  By the break Tadley were in front, Luke Allaston sprung the offside trap to beat DJS Keeper Mark Howell. Within two minutes of start of the second period Tadley had scored again, Theodore netting from a Ben Todd pass. Theodore then completed his hat in the 56th minute to make the score 5-2. DJS now looked well beaten as Theodore took a pass from Liam Belcher for the sixth.
