Review of games played on 13/10.

It wasn’t a good day for the goalkeeper’s. In the five Division One games thirty one goals were recorded but that was eclipsed in the seven Division Two games when the ball found the back of the net eighty three times.

Offerton Green away at Mountfield Rovers cashed in on the home sides frail defending twice in the opening ten minutes to go two up with a brace from James Webb. Getting over their mistakes they hit back and were level at the break with two headers from Danny Kyobe, from a corner and a free kick both supplied by Bobby Smith. The second half was even with both teams looking for the winner. It finally came ten minutes from the end, Daniel Birch from the edge of the area gave the keeper no chance to win the points for Offy.

Romiley and Cheadle produced a nine goal thriller at Brabyns Park. Reece Rudman scored early in the game to give Cheadle the lead, midway through the first half George Dean levelled the scores. Ben Reeves got Cheadle back in front and a Bobby Lofthouse penalty saw Romiley draw level. Just before half time a scorcher of a shot from Eric Newton put Cheadle back in front. Whatever was said at half time worked in the Romiley camp, within in a minute of the restart Carl Pendlebury made it all square. Liam Millen then got his side in front for the first time then got a second to make it 5-3. Cheadle stung back into action netted their fourth through Rudman. In an end to end thriller Romiley hung on for the win.

The highest scoring game in the division was the 6-4 result between Vikings and Stretford Vics. Vikings were always having to chase the game when they found themselves 4-1 at half time. An O.G. put Vics in front, Tyler Bryan equalised but goals from Sean Reid, Zach Berry and a fourth by Daniel Forrester giving Vics what seemed a comfortable lead. Vikings came out in the second half more determined and got their second, Matty Jepson scoring from the penalty spot after Keniel Henry had been fouled. Bryan then closed the gap with his second, Sean Reid then got his second to make it 5-3. Matty Jepson coolly beat the Vics keeper with his second penalty after Bryan had been fouled. Reid netted his second then Yonn Griffiths ensured the points were the Vics with their sixth goal.

Northenden FC were a goal up at half time away at Railway thanks to Joe Robinson’s well struck goal from a James Miller cross. They also had to thank keeper Steve Prunty for his part in keeping his goal intact. But he was finally beaten when Danny Garvey beat him from a Matt Lincoln cross. Lewis Behan put Rail in front from the penalty spot. A few minutes later Behan from a Reece Carter cross headed home his second goal. Near the end Rail’s keeper Dan Rothel saved Jordan Thompson’s penalty but the referee ordered it to be
retaken. Thompson kept his nerve to end the scoring with Northenden’s second goal.

North Reddish WMC have only themselves to blame for not taking all the three points in their game away at Winton Wanderers. Squandering good chances throughout the game they found themselves a goal down at half time. It was left to Charlie Murray to show good skill and a clinical finish to get them a point.

Division Two leaders Reddish Phoenix were the day’s top scorers, commiseration’s to Woodhouse Avengers who was on the end of a thumping. Liam Hindle was top scorer with seven, Sean Dunne hat trick two apiece for James Davis, Sam Findlow and Darious Forbes, the two Smiths Brad and Jack one each.

Didsbury Reds also hit double figures away at Bosden Farm Rovers, Elliot Brown scored four of the five first goals Tom Madden adding the other. In the second half Brown added a further two his total along with his two assists was the MOM, James Hodge (2), Ash Pemberton and Adam Jones added the final two goals.

Stockport Orion along with Nth Reddish WMC are the only two teams yet to taste defeat.

Orion carried on their good form with an away win at Wythenshawe Wanderers. Zach Grainger gave them an early lead when he latched onto a back pass and rounded the keeper for a simple goal. Grainger then became the assister from a great pass from Adam Jenner who laid the ball off for James Burns. A Sam Chambers free kick found Luke Fox who hit the back of the net with a sweet volley. Grainger ended the scoring with his fourteenth goal in six games cheekily flicking the ball over the defender beating another before rolling the ball home. The four one score-line was not as easy as it reads credit the home side they battled for the ninety minutes.

There was mixed fortunes for the Edgeley Villa club, the first team at home to Bosden Farm Albion were a goal up at half time, Rick Kelly the scorer from a Shae Kelly cross from the right. Good work down Villa’s left saw James Vickers lay the ball off for Shae Kelly to net the second. The third and final goal came when Tom Hannan was upended in the area. Dusting himself down and fired the ball home.

The Hatters were beaten away by Cheadle Hulme Galaxy whose four goals were shared by James Longshaw (2), Will Harris and Zahn Mohammed. Jamie Bower and Logan Gamble replying with the Hatters two goals.

It turned out alright for Woodhouse Park they came back from three nil down to win 4-3. Their opponents Cheshire Milkmen were two nil up at half then added a third early in the second half. It took the home side an hour before they opened their account, Harry Goddard-Hessing putting Jake Oswell through to open their account. Jobe Taylor-Bell rattled in the second from the edge of the area. Oswell got upended in the penalty area saw Goddard-Hessing level the score with his spot kick he then earned his side the three points with the winner.

The three goals scored in the Man & Chorlton v Adswood game all came in the first half. Chorlton were their own worst enemies conceding two soft goals, allowing Callum Neill and Jacob Brindley to accept their ‘gifts’. From a Joe Donoghue corner Aidan Pownall headed home to Chorlton’s lone reply.
