Round up 19 November 2011
CARLSBERG WEST CHESHIRE A.F.L.
MATCH ROUND UP W/E 19.11.2011
Ashvilles FA Vase journey is over after they went down 2-1 at home to North Counties East Premier Division side Staveley Miners Welfare. Facing opponents who operate 2 grades higher Ashville took the game to their visitors from the first whistle and carved out a number of chances which all went begging and 10 minutes before the break the game was turned on its head. The hosts conceded a soft penalty which was converted by Ryan Damms and worse was to follow when almost immediately the impressive Chris Coy made it 2-0. Twelve minutes of the tie remained when Leon Bimpson threw Ashville a lifeline with a superb long range volley but despite intense pressure on their goal Staveley held on to book their place in round 3.
Cheshire Cup 3rd round action saw Chester Nomads make progress at the expense of Stockport Georgians thanks to a solitary strike from Andy Fitzgibbon while Cammell Laird Reserves had a John Johnson penalty and Matty Houghton registering as they overcame host side Middlewich Town 2-1. Veteran Gordon Harrison was the star as Heswall edged out Ellesmere Port 2-1. His knock down header was volleyed home by Richie Foulkes to give Heswall a 2nd half lead and the ex Scottish League professional then got on the scoresheet himself before James Maryniak hit a late reply for Port. Colin Cunliffe collected a neat brace and Josh Williamson and Dayo Akinlabi were also on target as Willaston ran out 4-1 winners over Christleton [Mike Jeffs]. There was to be no joy for Capenhurst Villa who lost 2-1 at Dukinfield Town where Lewis Walters was the Villa man on the mark.
Maghull [Lee Tynan] lost ground in the Division 1 title race after being held to a 1-1 draw by visiting Upton AA [Paul Sweeney] and Newton leapfrogged them into 2nd spot after outgunning Southport Trinity 4-0. Joe Fagan and Jon Wilkinson hit singles for Newton which were added to a Dave Thompson double. Joe Connelly also plundered 2 goals as Marshalls got the better of hosts Blacon YC 2-0 and West Kirby [Andy Barker, Lewis McNally, Adam Lee, Terry Cotgrave, Lewis Morgan] enjoyed their best win of the season with a 5-0 rout of Mossley Hill Athletic. Vauxhall Motors Reserves won the battle of two of the youngest sides in the Division when a Lewis Hughes double after the break supplemented a 1st half Craig Cairns effort as Motors overcame Marine Reserves 3-0.
Division 2 table toppers Beb Athletic had to be content with a point as goals by Matty Earp and Lloyd Ithell were cancelled out by Baqar Pavas and Steve Carroll for Maghull Reserves but Hale returned to winning ways as Fassilli Poza, 2, and Ryan Collins netted in the 3-1 defeat of Mallaby [Mike Hulligan]. Richmond Raith Rovers [John Garner, Rob Madine, Paul Gouthwaite] maintained their improved form due to an odd goal in 5 success at Marshalls Reserves [James Doyle, Jack Goetzee] while Chris McGann and Carl Wilson notched 2 goals apiece as Prescot Cables Reserves overwhelmed struggling Heswall Reserves 6-0. South Liverpool still head Division 3 after Paddy OHanlon, Guy Dunning and Alex Woodcock struck in the 3-0 win over Upton AA Reserves and Helsby stay on their tail following their 2-0 success at Christleton Reserves where Josh Cullen and John Coady obliged. Phil Duncan starred with a hat trick as Mossley Hill Athletic Reserves remain 3rd as a result of their 4-0 defeat of Beb Athletic Reserves while Mersey Royal [Tom Povall] had to be content with a 1-1 draw at Capenhurst Villa Reserves [Tom Hackley].
Youth Division action saw Lower Breck Boys run riot as Shaun Campbell, Tom Davies and Tom Bernie all secured doubles in the 8-1 victory over basement boys REMYCA while South Liverpool [Callum Brown, Dan Robinson] gained a narrow 2-1 verdict over Finn Harps [Shaun Mallett]. The League wishes to extend its commiserations to the family and friends of Maghull FCs long serving servant Danny Sherlock, who died earlier this week.
