Basingstoke & District Saturday League Match Reports

The layer of snow on the Brighton Hill pitches disappeared and so allowing the outstanding Hampshire Junior B Cup Semi Finals to be played. With Overton United B beating Labour Club and AFC Berg, an easy win against Winklebury Wizards, the two will meet in the Final at the Portchester Ground on April 8th.
Although at full strength Basingstoke Labour Club were never at the races and after a disappointing performance were well beaten 6-0. Overton swept into the lead after just nine minutes when Kyle Buckland received a pass from Warren Clarke and finished well and in the 30th he scored again, this time a header from a Josh Smith centre. Always looking the stronger side, United went 3-0 up in the 51st when Wat Jones netted from a Jacob Burrows assist. With no response from Labour, Buckland completed his third hat trick in a row in the 70th. Wat Jones netted the fifth in the 82nd. Minute, from a Nuno Franco cross, Liam Randall finished off a Jones move for the sixth.
AFC Berg continues their excellent season by beating Winklebury Wizards 8-0 and their last defeat was back in October when Division One Hook beat them in the North Hants May Cup. After Richard McCoubrie lobbed Berg in front after just four minutes, it was only half chances for George Lagden and Alex Stevens as Wizards came back. They were not taken and the second for Berg was scored by Paul Crowe in the 20th. Wizards held them until early in the second half, but after Peter Lomax headed the third from a Mason Saunders cross, heads went down and goal flowed. Lee Neal and Saunders soon made it 5-0 and Carlos Gonzalez netted the sixth. Neal scored his second and finally Ashley Burchett ended the rout with the eighth.
North Hants May Cup Semi Final
The pitch at Preston Candover was unfit; therefore the North Hants May Cup Semi Final between Hook and Twentyten was postponed until this coming Saturday.
North Hants Saturday Junior Cup Semi Final
Basingstoke Royals are through to the Final of the North Hants Saturday Junior Cup after beating SparTen Vets 5-2 in Andover. Royals took a tenth minute lead through Cobi Judd after an assist from Ashley Taylor. It took SparTen just five minutes to level, but Royals regained their lead in the 20th when good play by Richard Impett led to Stephen Horton scoring. The home side looked always in the game and made it 2-2 by half time. Royals went 3-2 up early in the second half with a penalty; Steve Price converting after Richard Willcock was floored. In then 70th a 35 yard volley from Horton extended the lead and Impett made the game save with the fifth, a great finish from the edge of the box.
Division One
For the first time this season, Tadley Calleva A go top of the Division One table, a point clear of Basingstoke Royals after beating Basingstoke United 8-2 at Brighton Hill. It was United taking a second minute lead through Gus Reis after a half save by keeper Gary Harper. A clever back heel by Peter White following a Charlie Saunders corner saw Tadley level in the 17th and five minutes later Gary Hibbs put them in front after a shot from Kye Theodore was parried.. In the 30th Ashley Saunders made it 3-1 and by the break Theodore opened his account from a Peter White assist. White scored his second three minutes into the second half to make it 5-1 and then after White was brought down in the box, Theodore put away the spot kick. Luke Allison then put Theodore through for him to complete his hat trick, his third in a row and Stephen Burgess netted the eighth, before on the break, United scored their second through substitute George Collins.
Division Two
There was just the one game in Division Two after Chineham could not raise a team to play leaders Herriard Sports, who will now received the three points and go seven points clear of second placed Overton United B. It was at Aldermaston where the A team defeated Origin 4-3, with the winner from Vincent Kennedy coming very late in the game. It was new signing Jazz Powers who opened the scoring for Origin in the 16th minute, but their lead lasted just four minutes as Mick Legg sliced a clearance into his own net. Aldermaston were soon in front when Kevin Hill scored from a penalty. In the 50th minute Bradley Hawkins played a one two with Powers to regain the Origin lead and when Hawkins scored from a penalty kick after Powers was fouled, it looked like the points would go their way leading 3-2. It was not to be as with ten minutes to go keeper Dave Hawkins made a mess of the shot by Kennedy that ended up in the net and then he was beaten again with a deflected shot from Kennedy near the end.
