Weekly round up week ending 19 August 2023

MIDWEEK ACTION.............
Monday 14/8/23
Both Higher Bebington Kelma and West Kirby were victorious last Saturday in the Go2Day West Cheshire League's Division Two, but on Monday evening, the fourth and fifth placed sides met and cancelled each other out, in a competitive 2-2 stalemate. Kirby went ahead inside the first five minutes through Jack Wood, before the hosts levelled via goal-a-game Ben Kierman. The visitors restored their advantage with a Josh Abbott effort but the game concluded with honours shared, following a deserved equaliser from Andy Blakeborough, WRITES ERNIE MCDONALD.
In Division Three, despite a goal apiece from Paul Williams and Harrison Cooper, Capenhurst Villa Res. were upstaged by newcomers, Frodsham Park, who played their joker in four goal star Tim Ormrod. Cam Schofield and Luke Brew also made the scoresheet, as Frodsham emerged 6-2 victors and notched their first win of the season.

Consistent marksman, Lee Turkington bagged two goals and was supported by fellow scorers Keelan Densmore, Owen Kucharski, Connor Lyndsay and Charlie Wiggins, as Helsby took over at the top of Division One, following a 6-1 rout of Ellesmere Port Town, who netted through Joe Hayes. Dylan Doyle's lone strike was enough, as Vauxhall Motors Res. profited at the expense of Chester Nomads, and celebrated their first win of the new campaign, while respective scorers in fourth placed Maghull's 3-3 leveller with Rainhill Town, were Harrison Worden, Marcus Stewart, Joel Heaton-Robertson, Ben Dunleavy (2) and Peter Smith. Still looking to open their account are Aintree Villa, who had Jamie Alty and John Bucknall on target but capitulated 3-2 to replies from Litherland Remyca Res.' Mike Thomas (2) and Shaun Lewis.

Commiserations to Vauxhall Motors Youth side who had Theo McDowall and Cody Carter on the mark but bade farewell to the FA Youth Cup after they lost 4-2 at Marine.
Just the one game took place in Division Two, and it provided Marshalls Res. with their first win when efforts from Jacob Cunliffe, Adam Hurst, Joe Walker and Greg Kettlewell guided their side to a 4-1 decision over Mossley Hill U23's. Leo Reynolds netted the hosts' consolation. 7
WEEKEND ACTION...............
The goals flowed in Division One, and new leaders , Mossley Hill Ath., made it four wins from as many outings, when efforts from Paul Pearson (2) Connor Anderson, Caleb Jones, Dom Kelly, and Cai Jones anchored the visitors to a 6-1 victory at Vauxhall Motors Res., who had Thomas Hoather in reply. Nearest Rivals, Ashville Res., also boast maximum spoils to date, and their 6-1 eclipse of Litherland Remyca Res., featured goals from Danny Whitehead (2) Derek Taylor, Leon Jones, Anthony Gardner and Connor Sandham. The hosts had Anthony Griffith on target. In another 6-1 finish, a goal from Ollie Welsh proved scant reward for Ellesmere Port Town, who were on the receiving end at Rainhill Town. Dave Kelly (2) Ant Dunleavy, Andy O'Toole, Peter Smith and Jack McConville shared the goals. A new look Mersey Royal line up gave a good account of themselves, before going down 2-1 to a late winner against Newton, while Jacob Till (2) and Callum Hodgkinson left their calling cards, as Marshalls accounted for Heswall 3-0. Kirk McMurray's effort helped Capenhurst Villa to a 1-1 draw with Aintree Villa, but a Lee Turkington strike failed to prevent Helsby from capitulating 4-1 to replies from Maghull's Adam Hammill (2) Marcus
Stewart and Darren Brannigan. Elsewhere, Chester Nomads suffered a 3-0 defeat at home to FC Bootle.
Division Two leaders, South Liverpool Res. maintained pole position after a Theo Cartwright double clinched a 2-1 win over a spirited Neston Nomads who responded through Will Sara Kelly. Louie O'Brien struck twice and Danny Rickets also netted for Maghull Res. who led 3-2 against second placed Mallaby with 20 minutes remaining, before losing out 4-3. Ben O'Neill (2) Danny McLaughlin and Finley Williams were the visitors' marksmen. A goal from Runcorn Sports' Ryan Bazely was negated by a reply from South Sefton Borough's Gabriel Marinho while Huyton Rovers posted their first win of the season, Anthony Jacobs and Bobby Pennington applying the finishing touches in Saturday's 2-1 triumph over West Kirby. Josh Abbott scored for the visitors. Debutants, FC Kirby, went four points clear at the top of Division Three, after a Brendan Rawcliffe double allied to an own goal, secured a 5-2 result at previously unbeaten Cammell Laird 1907 Res. who answered via Adam Larway and Kieran Hughes. Second placed Chester Nomads Res. top scored on the day, efforts from Marco Appollonio (3) Connor Davies and an own goal setting up a 5-0 win at Heswall U23's and West Kirby Res. savoured their first win, Ben Hawitt, Steve Teale and Mike Mocha finding the net in a 3-1 result over Capenhurst Villa Res. Charlie Thomas was Cape's goalscorer. Cam Schofield's effort for Frodsham Park earned his side a point from a 1-1 draw with Helsby Res. who scored through Tom Brady and in another drawn outcome, Corey Beavan (2) and Ryan Bailey were Groves' hot-shots in a 3-3 draw with Runcorn Sports Res. The points were also divided, after efforts from Great Sutton's Thomas Boulton and Sonny Croft were matched by replies from Poulton Vics' Paul Doyle and Frankie Murtagh.
A Theo McDowell hat trick and a smart double from Bobby Barker assured Cammell Laird 1907 of a winning start in their Youth Division game against Athletico Blues who had Kieran Law and Liam Stevenson on target in a 5-2 defeat. Maghull B celebrated a 5-1 victory over Runcorn Linnets courtesy of goals from Nathan Moffitt (3) and Jack Jenkinson (2) while South Liverpool, with efforts from Louie Smith and Shea Wordsworth edged a 2-1 win over Neston Nomads, Callum Spence netting for the visitors. The final game in the Youth Division proved a success story for AFC Knowsley, goals from Bobby Connor (2) and Dylan Cogley outweighing a double from Mossley Hill Ath's Charlie Norris.
