Winklebury Wizards sprang a surprise in the Peter Raynbird Cup by beating Premier Division Bramley United 3-2 at Brighton Hill and this came after the Division Two side had lost three on the bounce.

Stuart Leddy gave the visitors a fifth minute lead following a pass from Sam Cato. Hugo Carlos leveled the scores on 25 minutes following a long throw from Terry Kimber, but just before half time Leddy restored the lead for United following a 40 yard solo run. Two minutes after the break Scotty Large and Dean Scott combined to put Wizards level again and by the 52nd they were in front. The corner kick taken by Carlos was helped into the net for an own goal off Josh Harper and although United pressed strongly it was Wizards Carl Adams who came closest by hitting the bar.
In the other Second round proper of this cup Hook just managed to beat Division One Overton United A 4-3 and will now face Wizards in the next stage. Pete Silvester went on a solo run and his deflected shot wrong footed the Overton keeper for the opener. Silvani Thomas was given too much room and equalized in the 30th in a tight first half. Good play by Tom Davies led to Andy Parker free to go on a solo run and he lobbed home the second for Hook in the 60th, but within two minutes Nathan Bennis had put the scores level again. Hook came back strongly with goals from Silvester and Davies and looked comfortable at 4-2 until five minutes from time when a faulty back pass from Dave White led to Bennis scoring his second and it was hanging on time for the last few minutes.

The second round of the North Hants May Cup managed to be completed this week with three Basingstoke teams going into the last eight. Basingstoke United took on Andover League team Kingsclere Reserves at the Fieldgate and returned home 2-1 winners. It was goalless until the 70th minute and then Kingsclere went in front when United were caught on a counter attack and Nathan Cheshire gave Kingsclere the lead. United pressed and with five minutes to go a corner was not cleared, it fell to Tom Hartley and his good ball in the box was put away by Ash Pearce, a fine volley in off the bar. With a minute to go Hartley was again in the action, he chased a loose ball, his cross was met by Pearce whose shot was spilled by keeper Jordon Sharpe and Daniel Southgate was on hand to put away the rebound. Twentyten went into a three goal lead against DJS Telecom who never really recovered and ended up 6-3 losers. Jake Tanner played Joe Hill through for the opener in the fifth minute, they scored a quick second through Joe Osborne and Tanner added another by the 15th minute. Craig Roshier headed Telecoms back in the game in the 44th and Ashley Elward scored from an early second half penalty. Hill scored his second with the keeper off his line, but again Telecoms came back with a Lee Neal strike to make it 4-3. Elward went off injured and losing him was fatal as Christian Cox scored following a cut back from Osborne and the sixth came when a good effort from Tanner hit the post and Alex Gonzato was able to score his first goal of the season. A 2-0 win for Hampshire Irons against Preston Candover has handed them a home tie in the Quarter Finals against Herriard Sports. James Arnold was at the far post to score their opener in the 20th minute from a Chris Dobbie cross. The second came in the 30th when the keeper James Mulqueen made a hash of a clearance; it fell to Alex Brown who lobbed over his the head as he hastily retreated.


In the outstanding North Hants Junior Cup AFC Aldremaston A made their exit well beaten 7-1 by Sutton Scotney. They took a tenth minute lead through Tom Cooper, but an own goal by Craig Porter made it 1-1 but by the half time whistle they were trailing 2-1. On came Paul Smith as substitute and within two minutes of entering the fray he was sent off leaving them with only ten men and leading and Sutton helped themselves.

As expected Rising Sun DC cruised thorough to the Semi Finals of the Basingstoke A Cup after beating Welly Old Boys 22-1 and they will now meet Tadley Calleva A in the Semi Finals. For the record Alex Hill scored the Welly lone goal at 10-0. For Rising Sun Ben Nicholls and Lee Chambers five apiece. Lorne Howard (4). Ben Vine (3), Michael Thomas and Gordon Birch, two apiece and an own goal completed the rout.
