BARTON PEVERIL SWEPT INTO THIRD ROUND OF ESFA TROPHY
They paraded seven fresher year students in their side and, having overcome the disappointment of conceding an equaliser, powered their way past the Surrey visitors.
BP began their colleges league programme in positive fashion, drawing 1-1 at Farnborough before beating Richard Taunton’s 7-0.
The win over Godalming will boost confidence ahead of next Wednesday’s sternest-yet test at champions Peter Symonds.
Jake Gould twice sent shots over the bar before firing BP ahead in the cup tie – but his joy was short lived as Godalming equalised with Geoff Cunningham sending a crisp half-volley past Nathan Jones.
But Barton Peveril picked themselves up and by half-time were 3-1 up through Oli Chambers and a second from Gould.
Once substitute Josh Carey headed a fourth, it was all over bar the proverbial shouting.
Miles Gibson, one of the ‘survivors’ from last season’s side, buried a fifth under the goalkeeper’s body, Carey burst through to score a sixth before Ryan Puckett made it 7-1.
Farnborough’s success in winning last season’s ESFA Trophy has sparked interest locally, with Peter Symonds paired against Sparsholt, Itchen going to Portsmouth and Boro’ themselves opening their cup defence at Richmond.
Itchen are the only college with a two-from-two win record after coming from behind to beat Peter Symonds 3-1 at Bereweeke Avenue.
They trailed at half-time to a Ben Moore PSC strike, but re-emerged a stronger unit after the break, with Ethan Taylor soon levelling the scores.
Jason Smith made it 2-1 and with ten minutes left on the clock fired in a third which flew off a Symonds defender past the helpless Aaron Whitmarsh.
Itchen don’t have another league match until they visit Barton Peveril on October 18.

Premier Division: Peter Symonds v Barton Peveril, Poole Grammar v Farnborough, Richard Taunton’s v Queen Mary’s.
