Billericay Baptist and Danbury Mission both progress to Round 3 of the Essex Saturday Junior Trophy.
Billericay Baptist and Danbury Mission both progressed to the third round of the Essex Saturday Junior Trophy on Saturday with hard-fought wins over more established oppositions.
Billericay were reliant on an excellent performance from goalkeeper Shane Coe and some clinical finishing from striker Andrew Brinkman to defeat Battlesbridge & Rayleigh 3-0. 2 goals from Brinkman either side of a James Reader goal were enough to earn a tough trip to Dunmow Rhodes in Round 3.
Danbury Mission overcame West Essex Reserves in an explosive opening 20 minutes. After an early Rhys Williams penalty put Danbury ahead, the West Essex goalkeeper was then sent off for denying a goalscoring opportunity by handling the ball outside the box. Williams grabbed his second of the game from the resulting free kick before Michael Packham added a third. West Essex fought back to 3-2 before half time, but Packham added a fourth in the dying moments of the game to book Danbury's place in the 3rd round, away to Buckhurst Hill U21's.
DNA picked up their first points of the season in the league with a 3-1 win over Rayleigh - although they had the crossbar and post to thank for keeping out numerous Rayleigh efforts.
