First ever South West Powerchair Football League kicks off in September 2015!

Devon FA in partnership with the Wheelchair Football Association have been working together over the past 12 months to set up the first ever South West Football League for wheelchair users and electric chair users which kicked off on Saturday 26th September! The league is based at the Riverside Leisure Centre in Exeter, with 6 league festival dates across the season. With the league committee now created, the league includes Ocean City PFC, Celtic Storm PFC, Exeter City PFC, Swindon Rockets PFC, Cheltenham Saracens PFC and Wessex Warriors PFC.
Helen Phelps-Starbuck, Ocean City PFC Coach and League Chairperson commented:
"We have some very exciting times coming up with the start of the South West Powerchair Football League. This will bring all the South West teams together to play some very exciting match games. Ocean City PFC are entering two teams and this will hopefully put Plymouth on the map in the Powerchair Football UK family. The league will also include teams from Truro, Exeter, Swindon, Cheltenham and Dorset. After five taster festivals in the 2014/2015 season I'm very proud at how the players have progressed and developed to set up the first ever Football League for wheelchair users and participants with physical disabilities”.
Alongside the taster festivals last season, in June 2015 the Wheelchair Football Association in partnership with Devon FA delivered a Referee Training course to upskill 10 referees on the laws of the game to officiate matches for the new season.
