Division One
Hook have won the Division One title for the past two seasons, but Twentyten, who finished runners up last term look determined to stop them making it a hat trick and commenced the new season with a resounding 10-2 win against a Bounty United side without their cricketers at the moment. It was however Bounty who took an early lead with a header from Craig Williamson from a Mike Gillham corner.. Alan Spacagna’s team soon equalised through Jack Clarke and Joe Hill, who both ended up with two apiece and in the second half when they dominated. Further coming with goals from Joe Osborne (2) and Ryan Lupton (2 and a single for Richard Gary and it became 8-1 before Bounty netted again through Williamson, from a Jordon Wainwright assist..
Hook had a difficult time at Barlow’s Park where they faced Tadley Calleva A, coming back from trailing 2-1 with ten minutes to play and then winning 4-2. They took the lead after eleven minutes when a free kick taken by Will Hill was headed home by Sam Barker. The equaliser came in the 67th. Claimed by Peter White, but may have come off the head of Barker, but no debating the second for Tadley in the 70th minute, put away by Jack Jones from Luke Allston’s cross. In the 84th Hook were awarded a penalty when Miles Gary was fouled and the spot kick put away by Dan Mauradian. Substitute Jack McKee, in the 84th regained the Hook lead and the final goal came in the last two minutes when Andy Parker took a Mauradian pass and put away his chance. Tadley manager Bradley Nash, the Tadley Manager felt his side deserved a better result as they were cruising at 2-1.
Two of the promoted teams Overton United A and Herriard Sports at Berrydown and Herriard came away with maximum points after a narrow 3-2 win, the decider coming in the last five minutes from Chris Dobbie. Overton had the better of play in the first half and took the lead in the 15th minute, Josh Smith scoring from the neat pass from Sammy Aldodori. It was in the 28th when United scored their second, Scott Winterbourne on the break chasing a pass from Jamie Smith and finishing well. It was in the 44th. when Chris Dobbie pulled a goal back and in the 60th they drew level when substitute Karl Buttle scored from a cross by Alex Roberts. The winner came in the 80th with the cross coming from Matt Goodman and Dobbie scoring his second. Herriard were pleased with their new keeper Keith Dickens and central defenders Jason Minton and Johnnie Gould.
AFC Aldermaston Reserves started their campaign with a 4-2 win against another of the promoted teams Winklebury Wizards. Adam Perrett gave them a 2nd minute lead after an assist by Ricky Waknell and had to go off injured in the 20th.. Wizards were on top by then and equalised after Josh Dickins forced a save and Jack Arthur put away the rebound. Then in the 40th Vincent Mundane headed their second and in the second half AFC Aldermaston improved and in the 55th Matt Hoyte pulled one back when he received good ball from Reece Barrett. They then levelled when Hoyte put Carl Allen through and then in the 70th Luke Jones pass found Waknell who made sure of the points with the fourth.
Division Two
Newly formed Sherborne Saints had a good start in Division Two, beating another new club Somesay 7-1 at home. Matt Livingston opened their account in the 10th minute after a pass from Lewis Judd.. Matt Kelly, late of Labour Club, added the second from a Dan Grimes corner and a first time shot from Ronnie Tamale made it 3-3. Somesay replied with a goal, a volley from Connor Stratton. Kelly headed on for Livingstone to make it 4-1 and a very unusual fifth goal when keeper Jake Lear scored with 70 yard clearance kick. Kelly made it six from a pass by Alex Izzo and then completed his hat trick after receiving a pass from Livingstone.
Chineham who finished bottom last season, looks to have a stronger squad and commenced with a 6-3 win over Origin Headley. It was a hat trick from Charlie Callahan that clinched the points. Eugenio Domingue with a deflected shot in the 21st was followed by a Rickie Smith shot deflected in by Callahan and the next by Tim Manson for a three goal advantage Origin hit back before the break with a header from Bradley Hawkins and Luke Ambrose put away his chance. Manson with a 25 yard shot and a second from Callahan put Chineham 5-2 up and Callahan scored his third after putting away a long ball from John Smith. A looping shot from Simon Vosper was the only reply from Origin.
Newcomers Basingstoke Colts almost started with a win against Longdog Soldiers, with their star man Banjca-Marian Oprea scoring all four of their goals, but a late strike by Addie Mosdell, who nutmeg’s his man, netted the equaliser. Terry Dingley, with two goals was Soldiers Man of the Match, equalising after Oprea scored his first to lead after fifteen. minutes. Max Trodd then put them in front a minute after the break, but Oprea came back with two goals before the Mosdell equaliser.
Basingstoke Athletic following being relegated won 4-2 against Twentyten Reserves who took a second minute lead through Dan Hancock after being set up by Franklin Spacagna. Paul Walsh-Taylor had an outstanding game for Athletic, having a hand in most of their efforts. He laid on the equaliser for Harry Cook , played Marco Howard through for his, to set up Nathan Read for the lead. Taylor then scored himself. The fourth goal for Athletic came from substitute Marcus Howard, from a swerving free kick. Aaron Farmer was credited with the 90th minute goal for Twentyten.
AFC Berg ended up 6-3 winners against AFC Aldermaston A after sweeping into a three goal advantage, two for Dan Deadman and an og. Aldermaston hit back with two from Vincent Kennedy, a volley and a header, from Paul Mellor’s cross. Two for Lee Neal either side of half time saw Berg cruising and Paul Crowe added another. A penalty for Liam Belcher was the only other reply.
