Women's Over 30s Event

As part of the Women’s Football Offer, Cumbria Women’s League in partnership with Cumberland FA are offering women the chance to ‘turn up and play’ as individuals or with a group of friends without the worry of finding enough players to enter a team.

With the FIFA Women’s World Cup in the knockout stages, now is the time for women aged 30 and over in Cumbria to dust off their boots and sign up to an evening of football!

The Over 30s event is a chance for new players as well as ‘retired’ players to play in a fun and relaxed environment. All abilities and ages (over 30) are welcome!

The first event takes place on Friday 11 September 2015 between 7-9pm at Newton Rigg Astro-Turf Penrith.

The event will be an opportunity for women to come and play for fun but also give those who would like to play more regularly the chance to find out more information on local teams following the success of the Women’s Summer League.

The majority of players playing in local teams are in their teens and early twenties; the Over 30s evening is a chance for the ‘more experienced ladies in life’ to play without the youngsters snapping at their heels!

The Women’s Summer League will be coming to an end shortly with players and coaches giving Cumberland FA feedback to shape the future. Jess Nelson, Cumberland FA Football Development Officer says “We will be confirming the plans for the next stages of the Women’s Football Offer soon and the Over 30s event will be a fantastic opportunity for women to play. The Women’s World Cup has again raised the profile of women’s football and we are looking forward to the playing opportunities in the new season.”

Cumbria Women’s League secretary Helen Aitchison says “If this event is a success and we get women coming along enjoying a kick about, we are hopeful that it can continue through the season possibly in a monthly format. Football often falls behind family and work commitments for women and by providing a monthly session we’re hoping to give an opportunity for players to get back into the game whilst juggling family life.”
