More bad weather, more broken floodlights and more Penistone domination in a truncated league programme this week,

The weather once again wreaked havoc with the fall out from Storm Babet continuing to affect the league negatively this week. However, the game that did survive provided plenty of entertainment for those in attendance.

The North Division was kicked off on Monday night with a clash of the top two. Visitors Penistone Church taking a firm hold of the division as they inflicted Emley’s first defeat with a 4-0 victory. Church certainly share the goals around and are in possession of 5 of the 6 top scorers in the division. Jack Lenthall and Oliver Casson both moved onto 4 each for the season with further goals from Alfie Broughton and Jack Roberts in a convincing win for Penistone who have now won 7 from 7. The other game in the division saw Handsworth pick up 3 points on the road at Thorncliffe. Harrison Marvin scored twice and Finley Musson got a 3rd with Bailey Wright replying for Thorncliffe in a 3-1 win for the Ambers. The other two games between Dronfield and Worsbrough and Swallownest and Jubilee fell foul of the elements.

The South Division was kicked off by G3A and Notts County on Monday evening but for the second week in a row the lights failed at Ollerton and the game was abandoned after 61 minutes with G3A leading 3-0. Tuesday’s game between Kimberley and Staveley was postponed due to a fixture clash with Kimberley’s first team. The only completed game in the division came at Rainworth where the Wrens beat Matlock Town 2-1. Toby Francis moved to 8 goals in 5 games with another double. William Bayles bagging for the Gladiators. Thursday’s game between Long Eaton and Sherwood was postponed after overnight rain. Disappointingly the game between the top two will have to be rescheduled.

On Wednesday evening, Dinnington Town got their first win of the season. They beat fellow strugglers Retford FC 2-1 at home with goals coming from Jack Cully and Jay Stone. Retford replied through Haydn Goddard. With no games for Harworth, Club Thorne, Goole or Worksop, the only other action took place on Friday night at Gainsborough. Having knocked Retford United out of the cup on home soil a fortnight ago, the Holy Blues got the same result in the league. Kyle Simpson struck twice and Billy Housham once. Despite Billy Stafford having put the visitors ahead, the points stayed in Gainsborough as the home side won 3-1.

This week should hopefully see a bit more action. On Monday Jubilee are due to entertain Handsworth in the North, whilst G3A should play Sherwood in the South. Tuesday’s game between Notts County and Kimberley is off due to the Magpies been in FA Youth Cup action. Central Division leaders Harworth return to action on Wednesday as they visit Dinnington Town. On Thursday, Club Thorne host Worksop Town, Emley welcome Thorncliffe Villa, Matlock are at home to Long Eaton, Penistone Church are visited by Dronfield Town, the Retford derby takes place as FC host United at The Rail and Worsbrough Bridge are awaiting a visit from Swallownest. The action wraps up on Friday evening as Staveley MW host Rainworth MW at Inkersall Road.
