District League Report March 12th

Heywood Irish Centre retained their four points lead at the top of division 1 following a hard fought 2-1 win over Berry Brow with goals from Kieran Mayall and Damien Murray. Joe Brennan scoring the consolation for the Brow.

Kyle Walton and Dan Holmes scored for second placed Newsome in their 2-0 win away at Skelmanthorpe. Linthwaite Athletic are up to third following goals from Bryn Jenkins, Ryan Wadsworth, Ernest Boafo and Elliot Collins in their 4-2 win at home to Diggle whose goals were scored by Chris Wilkins and James Edwards. Slaithwaite United eased their relegation concerns with goals from James Edwards, Chris Wilkins and a hattrick from Ashley Beardsall in a 5-1 win at home to Fothergill and Whittles.
AFC Lindley stay third in division 2 with a 2-1 win at home to Cumberworth whose goal was scored by Harvey Rotchell. Alex Pearson scored a last-minute winner as Britannia Sports look to be making a last ditch bid for promotion by winning 3-2 away at Kirkburton. They move up to fifth with games in hand. Their other goals were scored by the evergreen Kieran Lenihan and Jake Waterson. Jack Goring and Jack Woods scored for Kirkburton.
A hattrick from Jason Evans and a brace from Lee Rowbotham saw Moorside move into second place in division three beating Hade Edge 5-2. Adam Taylor scoring both for Hade Edge. The League was saddened to hear of the death of Dave “Flicker” Meredith at the weekend after a long battle with cancer. Dave was a Moorside stalwart and founder member of Moorside Junior Football Club back in 2004. The club is asking for as many of his friends as possible to take a trip to Fall Lane at Marsden this weekend where they are due to play Marsden Cuckoos. Prior to kick-off there will be a minute’s applause in his honour.
2 points separate Wooldale Wanderers and AFC Volunteers at the top of division 4 after both of their games were postponed. This week could be the championship decider when Wooldale take on the Volunteers at Westfield Park, Wooldale kick off 2.15pm.
In reserve division 1 a Mike Cook goal was not enough as Britannia Sports lost 2-1 at home to Dalton Dynamos whilst Fothergill and Whittles stay second in the table by beating Heywood Irish Centre 5-2. Jonathan Barnes (three), Matthew Fallon and Matthew Fitton scored for Fothergill and Whittles. Matthew Roberts and Anthony Thompson scored for Heywood’s.
2 goals from Stephen Brook were not enough for Almondbury Woolpack as they lost at home 3-2 to Scholes A in division 2. In a mid-table clash Meltham Athletic with goals from Jonny Morgan (two) and Gabriel Cattell lost 6-3 at home to Holmbridge. Daniel Goodwin, Adam Green, Gary Parr, Gareth Myers, Daniel Woodhall and Jacob Payne all scored for Holmbridge.
Division 3 leaders Slaithwaite United slumped to a shock 4-2 defeat away at Deighton A whose goals were scored by Leevan Brown, Jason Helm (two) and Harlan Richards whilst James North scored both for Slowit. Bottom club Wooldale Wanderers lost 5-0 at home to Grange Moor Saints whose goals were scored by Michael Hall (two), Bailey Roy, Adam Wain and Cameron Wilkey.
In reserve division 4 Rob Singleton, Gabriel McNae, Josh Armitage (two) and James Wilkinson were on the mark for Brook Motors Development in their 5-3 win over neighbours Honley. Terry Murphy (two) and Luke Brook scored for Honley.

In the Barlow Cup Holmbridge moved into the quarterfinals with a comfortable 5-1 win over Dalton Dynamos with goals from Max Morley (three), Seb Allen and Sam Carr. Kirkheaton Rovers also moved into the quarterfinals following a hard fought 3-2 win at Holme Valley Academicals. Simranpal Punia and Richard Eales scored for the Accies, and Benjamin Hallitt (two) and Oliver martin scored for Kirkheaton. Jordan Saville and Sam Thompson scored as Scholes booked their place in the semi-finals on Easter Monday in a 2-0 win at Shepley.
Dalton Dynamos A are through to the semi-finals of the Gee Cup after a 3-2 win at home to Skelmanthorpe. Antoni Short and Rhys Wilson scored for Skelmanthorpe. Berry Brow B drew 1-1 with Hade Edge but lost 3-2 on penalties. Hade Edge now meet Berry Brow A in the quarterfinals on March 26th. Matthew Hamer and Allpayman Ramazani scored as Netherton eased past Cumberworth A 2-0 to move into the quarterfinals where they will play Linthwaite Athletic A.
Meltham Athletic are through to the quarterfinals of the Groom Cup after a hard fought 3-2 win away at Honley. Toby Farrington (two) and Nick Whiteley scored for Meltham. Daniel Colbeck and Josh Rowbottom scored for Honley.
Berry Brow Reserves are through to the semi-finals of the Richardson Cup with goals from Dean Siddiq, Andrew Roberts, Lee Wharam and Jamal Bent in a 4-1 win over Scholes Reserves.
