Heywood Irish Centre completed a District League and Barlow Cup double on Tuesday night beating Newsome 3-2. Nathan Eastwood opened the scoring for Heywood’s on 10 minutes when cutting in from the left he hit a low left foot shot just inside the goal post and into Newsome’s’ net. Heywood’s led 2-1 at half-time and increased their lead with an own goal with 15 minutes to go following a scramble in the six-yard box following a corner kick. Shortly afterwards Newsome’s keeper was dismissed for a foul and the substitute keeper came on and saved the penalty to keep Newsome in the game. Josimar Bradshaw beat the Heywood’s keeper to a cross into the box on 79 minutes to make it 3-2 to set up a nail-biting finish but Heywood’s’ held on to win the Barlow Cup.
