Heywood Irish Centre completed a District League and Barlow Cup double on Tuesday night beating Newsome 3-2. Nathan Eastwood opened the scoring for Heywood’s on 10 minutes when cutting in from the left he hit a low left foot shot just inside the goal post and into Newsome’s’ net. Kieron Mayall made it 2-0 to Heywood’s with a goal almost the same as the opener, cutting in from the left and hitting a low right foot shot home.
Kyle Walton made it 2-1 on 30 minutes with a solo run and powerfully hit shot. Heywood’s led 2-1 at half-time and increased their lead with an own goal with 15 minutes to go following a scramble in the six-yard box following a corner kick. Shortly afterwards Newsome’s keeper was dismissed for a foul and the substitute keeper came on and saved the penalty to keep Newsome in the game. Josimar Bradshaw beat the Heywood’s keeper to a cross into the box on 79 minutes to make it 3-2 to set up a nail-biting finish but Heywood’s’ held on to win the Barlow Cup.
The League’s Life President Frank Beaumont and his wife Anne presented the trophies and the man of the match award, the Frank Beaumont Trophy was presented to Finlay Madigan the Heywood’s’ keeper.

Newsome Reserves completed the double last week winning the FA Challenge Trophy first and the Richardson Cup last Friday night. Goals from Adam Hill and Levi Maturine saw off the challenge from Linthwaite Athletic Reserves in a 2-0 win. On Thursday night Daniel Ryan scored twice as Newsome Reserves beat Linthwaite Athletic Reserves 2-0 to leave them needing a point from their last 2 games to win Reserve Division 1 and complete the treble.

Britannia Sports took the second promotion spot in division 2 with a fine 4-1 win over Kirkburton last Saturday. Mike Annoville scored twice with further goals from Steve Cross and Will Winnard. Alex Mathias scored the consolation goal for Kirkburton.
Scissett won the Groom Cup on Thursday night beating Moorside 1-0 in a very evenly balanced game. Chris Martin scored the decisive goal that sealed the tie. The man of the match and winner of the Geoff Earnshaw Shield was Scissett’s, Ryan Trafford. The Editor of the Huddersfield Hub, Martin Shaw and colleague and Sports Editor Steven Downes presented the trophies after the match.
