H&W became the 3rd team in the last 4 years to do the League double....

Report courtesy of Women's SoccerScene:

Havant & Waterlooville completed the League and 'Cup' double in the Southern Region League with a 2-0 victory over Southampton Saints in the League Cup Final at Fareham.

The Hawks' side includes several players with Premier League experience and had a little too much strength and class on the day against a talented young Saints side, the league runners-up, in poor weather conditions.

A strong gusting wind made it hard for both sides to play their passing game and Lisa Cooper's early strike, narrowly off target, was the only effort on goal in the early stages.

Chantelle Hedge shot wide after intercepting a goal kick but the next chance went the way of Southampton, captain Krystal Whyte's angled effort being blocked by the legs of Erin Davis.

Lizzie Laws drove a 30-yard free kick wide for Havant and Saints hit back straight away, Taz Pardoe breaking down the right before sending in a cross which just eluded the oncoming Stacey Angliss.

The weather worsened and driving rain made things even harder before half time, Charley Wilson heading a Jodie Prince cross straight at Hannah Haughton as the half ended goalless.

The rain thankfully relented after the restart and conditions became a little more comfortable for the two teams. Havant looked as though they were going to take the lead as Wilson wriggled her way past two defenders in the area and struck her shot goalwards but Haughton thrust out a right hand and pulled off a brilliant diving save.

Haughton produced another superb stop to deny Prince from close range but from the resulting corner, Laws' kick could only be helped into her own net by Haughton and Havant were in front.

Southampton almost came up with an instant reply as Kirsty Parfett threaded a great through ball into the path of Whyte whose first touch was a little heavy but still produced a goalbound shot which was well saved by Davis.

Havant began to grow stronger with Wilson working hard up front while Laws and Jo Lockton prompted matters in midfield. Sam Stone almost made a quick impact after coming on as a substitute as she broke down the right and tricked her way past Emily Slater before drilling her shot inches past the far post.

Southampton played some neat football with full backs Rachel Snow and Emily Slater having good games and pacey winger Whyte looking lively but they could not get through a powerful Havant defence whose own full backs Jenna Dunster and Charlotte Brown both impressed.

Wilson went close to a second goal for the Hawks but her 20-yard shot struck the bar. Havant won a series of corners but Southampton dug in to keep themselves in the game and Haughton continued to have an excellent match between the posts.

As the game went into injury time, Havant sealed the win with a killer second goal. Wilson's corner from the left was met with a header by Dunster, Snow tried to clear but the ball was adjudged to have crossed the line and Havant could finally celebrate the end of a successful season.
