Dun Cow celebrate the opening goal in Sunday's Challenge Cup Final...

United Take The Proverbial... Proverbial United took the Division Three Cup in their first season, writes Darren "Statto" Jones (statto@cssfl.info).

Last Friday saw the Division Three Cup Final at Hitchin Town FC. After a terrific run of form, Old Barclavians chose the biggest stage to put in a poor performance. During a cagey opening, Proverbial United went closest 10 minutes before half-time when Sam Stephenson lashed a 40-yard free-kick against the crossbar. They did take the lead when Scott Seals curled home a shot into the top corner from the edge of the box. Josh Stock was causing the back line problems before Cory Cooper latched onto a loose ball and fired it into the roof of the net from outside the box to make it 2-0. Both sides had further chances, but Proverbial United were victorious.

Sunday morning saw Dun Cow complete the 'domestic treble'. Real Stevenage put up a magnificent fight in the first-half of the CSSFL Challenge Cup, sponsored by TrophyUK.net, going close on a couple of occasions, Lez Chappell putting a superb Sam Bickerstaff cross just wide with a diving header. However, after the break, Ian Thorne smacked their crossbar and it was a sign of things to come. Great work by Scott Mahoney saw him square for Glen Lamacraft to cleverly finish across Will Harris and into the far corner. Adam Furness scored from the edge of the box for 2-0 before Thorne got in on the act from close-range. Furness scored with a lovely free-kick from 20 yards before an own goal made it 5-0. In the Premier Division, the runners-up spot was confirmed by FC Nirankari with a narrow 5-3 win over Stevenage Leisure Limited, who end a spirited season pointless. David Iwediuno (hat-trick) and Andrew Levy (two) were on the mark for Nirankari, SLLs goals came from Kieran Ellis (two) and Matt Sharp.

In Division One, third place was up for grabs and FC Mallard took it when they leap-frogged their victims. George Lawson (hat-trick), Tony Webb (two), Sam Dunn and Tom Gallego netted in their 7-4 win. MKS Carpentry’s reply came from Christian Capon, Ray Downes, Neil Roskilly and Olly Rice.

In Division Two, a 4-3 win in the final game of the season saw Rileys Athletic move out of the bottom two thanks to a brace apiece from Lewis Osborne and Tom Rhydeheard. Hartham Press replied through Dave Mower, Dan Curtin and Jamie Burbury.

Also one game in Division Three where Old Barclavians put the disappointment of their cup final defeat two days earlier behind them with a 10-0 trouncing of Stevenage Old Town. Nick Wellings (two), Joe Marshall-Zeal (two), Lee Falanga (two), Dean Page, Dave Warwick, Rich Moore and Adam Presland doing the damage as they look to grab promotion with their final game to come.
