Proverbial, Tree and TC Progress... Just three of our nine sides in County Cup action made it through, writes Darren “Statto” Jones (statto@cssfl.info).

Proverbial United were biggest winners in the Herts Junior Cup and were 6-0 up by the break at Half Moon. Sam Stephenson was first on the score sheet, firing home a 30-yard half-volley after ten minutes. Scott Seals and Jamie Robertson both hit scuffed shots from outside the area, which were parried into the goal by the poor home ‘keeper before Seals latched onto a through ball and slotted home a fourth. Dave Pateman got in on the act when he chipped the ‘keeper before the goal-of-the-game came as Bryan Challice fired home a volley from just inside the box from a corner. They completely dominated, but then blotted their copybook with a silly challenge in the box, leading to a converted penalty for the home side. Kevin Ward finished the game off with a tap-in from two yards to make it 7-1.

TC Wanderers eased into the next round with a comfortable 3-0 win at AFC Meads. The visitors went in front within the opening ten minutes when a cross confused the home defence and Luke Brackenbury arrived unmarked to smash the ball home. Tony Friggieri raced onto a through-ball and poked it past the on rushing ‘keeper to make it two. The scoring was complete before the break when they were awarded a penalty and without hesitation, skipper Richard Allder stepped up and made no mistake.

In a close first-half at AFC Bushey, Almond Tree La Coruna saw a long effort from Vinnie Kernaghan parried away by the ‘keeper before Bill Flavell hit the crossbar from six yards. The home side also had some chances, but it wasn’t until a few minutes after the break when a long throw-in found Stephen Clibbon to finish with a header at the back post. Kernaghan and Clibbon missed further chances, but it was the latter’s goal that won it as it finished 1-0.

An under strength View Point Wanderers lost to a solitary Hadham Villa goal after 15 minutes when a long range strike hit the top corner. They woke up after the break, but despite creating some good chances, they failed to force extra-time.

Brackers travelled to St Albans and it was Herts Athletic that took the lead against run of play when a mix-up in the defence saw the striker take the ball round Rich Edwards and slot into an empty net. Ryan Treavish came close to an equaliser but it did come on the hour with a superb goal from captain Theo Griffith saw him cut inside and unleash a shot into the top corner. The home side then took advantage of some sloppy defensive play to go 3-1 up before a floated corner found the head of Alex Goodson for his second in two games, but they went down 3-2.

ABC Taxis were beaten 4-2 by Mon the Biff. Tallem Dennis scored for A1 Trophies as they went down 3-1 at home to Lokomotiv Preston. Gary Hillard’s goal wasn’t enough as Broadhall Athletic lost 4-1 at O'Neils Celtic. Stevenage Old Town were hammered 7-1 by visitors Thunbridge United.
