Scorching September Morning... On a scorching hot September morning, water breaks were a must, writes Darren “Statto” Jones (statto@cssfl.info).

In the Premier Division, Marquis of Lorne failed to gather enough players for their first game after promotion and the points going to Olympic Nirankari is inevitable.

Lifestyles smashed eight goals in Division One as they head the fledgling table on goals scored. Joe Chilton (hat-trick) and Ryan Ellis (two) scored on their return to the club after their relegation from the top flight. Michael Difford, Matthew Sharp and Jack Worbey were also on target. Ben Weldon replied with a brace for Coopers United in their 8-2 defeat.

MBDA led a tight game against Coach and Horses at the break thanks to a Sam Harwood goal from Kyle Watson’s cross. Harwood had replaced they injured goal machine Ashley Kersey. Ross Walker finished after a solo run for number two before Watson made it three with a terrific free-kick. Walker then crossed for substitute Phil Fisher to make it 4-0. Coach had one shot on target and will be thankful to have their full squad back soon after being well beaten by both clubs relegated from the Premier.

A good game, played in a good spirit throughout saw AJS Tyres Broadhall gradually get the upper hand. It took them until just before half-time to when one of many passing moves culminated with Paul Hancock finding Michael Emmings, who finished well into the bottom corner. The pattern of the game was similar after the break, then with just over ten minutes to play, they wrapped up the points when a surging run from Phil Stevens saw him play a pass into Hancock, who returned another great pass for Stevens to smash the ball into the roof of the net. Breachwood Lions did not give up and reduced the deficit in the last minute to set up an unlikely tense finish, Ali Collins was denied by the ‘keeper and the ball fell at the feet of Ollie Mason, who thrashed home, but it finished 2-1.

In Division Two, a stunning game of thirteen goals saw Emperors Head take the points. Their first two games have yielded twenty-one goals! They started the game on the front foot and soon went in front when Mark Prophet crossed perfectly for Lewis Sealy to score. A stunning twenty yard lob from Dave Hannaway made it two only to see a Roebuck Gate rally bring the scores back to 2-2, before Stuart Smillie put them in front again. Gate equalised again before Joe Whittaker and Hannaway made it 5-3 at the break. Whittaker scored his second before they conceded from a penalty. Whittaker completed his hat trick before another concession. Sealy completed the scoring at 8-5 by rounding the ‘keeper. Dean Auburn (two), Dave Morton (two) and Danny Bacon were on target for Gate.

JML Plumbing & Heating Athletic went in front when Craig Braine headed home a Joe Lucy free-kick. Tom Gallagher put away a penalty for the second before Alex Lucy popped up to make it 3-0. Old Barclavians had no answer.

Pin Green beat Hartham Press 2-0 thanks to Lewis Carroll and an own goal.

In a very even Division Three game, A1 Trophies scored the only goal after an outrageous back pass from Almond Tree La Coruna’s Stephen Clibbon found Simon Longman, who finished well. Clibbon had a chance to redeem himself late on, but dragged his volley wide. A solid performance from Tony Bailey was their plus point.

View Point Wanderers were on top in the first-half, Charley Blackham’s corner was powerfully headed home by centre-half Allan Johnston for the big Scotsman’s second in as many games. Then Blackham’s clever lob came back of the crossbar and Gaz Baker reacted quickest to head home the loose ball to make it two. Further chances were spurned and Brackas pulled back a late consolation through Jason Smith.

TC Wanderers took the lead through a Leeroy Odd header across the goal, before Broadhall Athletic equalised shortly after. Mark McKeown restored the lead with the goal of the game, holding off a few defenders before unleashing a shot from fully thirty yards before the break. With twenty minutes remaining, Broadhall levelled again when a shot from outside the box was palmed to the on-rushing striker and they won it with five minutes to go when a TC defender cleared a loose ball in the area and it hit the back of the goalkeeper and rebounded into the net. Broadhall declared the goalscorers as Craig Gilbert (two) and Garry Smith.

Proverbial United made light work of ‘the Old Town derby’ with a comprehensive 4-0 win over Stevenage Old Town. All goals came from morning signings Dave Pateman (two), Sam Stephenson and Josh Stock.
