With the season now in full swing patterns and form are starting to emerge from the three divisions as the competition gets more and more intense.

Matchday 4

Premier Division

Our weekend round-up starts at Hillsborough College where Ecclesfield Red Rose hosted, so far winless Oughtibridge WMSC. The game was a high scoring affair, and the away side were able to secure their first three points of the season in fine style winning 5-2. A nod to Matthew Harrison who scored four of the five Oughtibridge goals.

The M-Tec Stadium played host to a game between Houghton Main and current league leaders Dodworth Miners Welfare. The current leaders backed up their impressive form with another comfortable victory this time 4-0, keeping them unbeaten in five. Of the chasing pack both Hepworth United and Swinton Athletic were wanting to win and keep their solid starts to the season on track. It was Swinton that was able to claim all three vital points winning 3-0, meaning they move into second place having won all three of their games this season. As ever Justin Greenwood at the double for Swinton.

Wakefield AFC were back on the road this weekend as they travelled to Stocksbridge Park Steels Reserves who have been rather up and down so far this campaign. The away side prevailed winning 4-1 with Samuel Amissah and Jed Wilkinson getting two goals each. Wakefield climb to fifth place. Jubilee Sports were also able to secure an away win at the weekend against Sheffield Town. The game finished 3-1 to the away side with a brace from Girey Alidu. Jubilee sit just below Wakefield on goal difference in sixth. The final game of the weekend saw Wombwell Main notch an impressive 2-1 home win against North Gawber Colliery. Wombwell climb up onto six points with five other sides including North Gawber.

Division One

There were just the three games in Division 1 this weekend. South Elmsall United Services were hosting Wombwell Main Development. The home side were comfortable winners on the day winning 4-0 with Lucas Stubbs scoring twice pushing his side up into fourth place. Wombwell Main are yet to claim their first win.

There were two closer contests in the other games in the division. Firstly, to the UPVC Trade Centre Ground as hosts Denaby Main’s good start to the season continued with a tight 2-1 win against Athersley Recreation Reserves. The win pushes Denaby up into second place just a point behind leaders Handsworth. Over to Frecheville Sports Club where New Bohemians were playing their first home game of the season against South Kirkby Colliery. The away side, however, spoiled the homecoming party with a hard fought 2-1 win and leapfrog Bohemians into sixth place as a result.

Division Two

There was no lack of goals in Division 2 this weekend and there was nine of them at Swinton Miners Welfare as the Reserve side managed to impressively outmuscle Thurcroft FC 9-0. Swinton continue their perfect start to the season and are now top because of their +17 goal difference. The other side who have been matching Swinton’s start are Caribbean Sports who also impressively won at home this weekend against Houghton Main Development 6-0. Joshua Allison and Liam Dawson both netting two goals each. Caribbean remain level with Swinton on 12 points.

Elsewhere at the Dorothy Hyman Sports Centre it was the away side Silkstone United who managed to secure a convincing 4-0 win against previously unbeaten Wakefield EFP. Silkstone sit in third just three points behind the two leaders. The fourth and final game of the weekend was a close contest between Sheffield Lane Top FC and Millmoor Juniors. The game finished 1-1 meaning Millmoor stay unbeaten having won twice and drawn twice in their opening four games. Lane Top now unbeaten in two games and are moving up the division.
