Humber Premier League v North Riding Football League at The Roy West Centre, East Riding County FA, Hull on Saturday 13th January 2018.

The North Riding kicked off this second round tie kicking away from the Clubhouse and in an even opening ten minutes both sides had chances with McQueeney firing wide for the visitors whilst Clancy slid in and lifted the ball over the bar for the home side. With eleven minutes gone Rose burst through beating two players before forcing the home keeper to parry the ball away for a corner. From the resulting Wetherald corner, Rose leapt tom head home as he lost his marker. This lifted the visitors and a quick 1-2 between Rose and McQueeney saw Rose's shot parried away again. On sixteen minutes Southall picked up a clearance and fed Rose who slid the ball inside a defender for McQueeney to slide the ball past the keeper to extend the lead. The home side tried to hit back and fired a free kick over the bar but the North Riding kept posing problems whilst the defence repelled everything that was being thrown at them and just before half time the visitors struck again as Rose made his way across the field before sliding the ball through to Southall who cut the ball back for Jack Guy to smash high into the net. Six minutes later Guy was brought down in the area with the Referee pointing to the spot. Liley kept his cool to send the keeper the wrong way to make it 4-0 to North Riding. The visitors were well on top at this stage and just before the interval the home defence failed to clear and Southall slid the ball home to make it 5-0 to North Riding at half time. The home side came out playing for pride and with the intention of getting back into the game quickly however a North Riding corner was flicked on and cleared off the line. The Humber League then forced a corner which was flicked on at the near post but flashed agonisingly wide at the back post with no-one able to get a touch. Just before the hour mark the home side pulled a goal back when a quick break saw the ball go across the area where Bannister fired back across the keeper to reduce the deficit. The visitors came back and McQueeney held the ball up well before lifting his shot over the keeper but it landed on the top of the net. The game was more open now and the home side pressed again but Lee cleared a goalbound shot off the line. Both sides continued to battle away but the North Riding had done the damage in the first half and ran out worthy winners to earn themselves a home tie against the Isle of Man in Round 3. The North Riding Football League were up for the game from the outset and put in a very professional performance especially in the first half and played some superb football into the bargain. The whole team deserve great credit from the keeper right through the team including the substitutes and the manager and coaching staff on the sidelines.
