FC BRNESC come from behind twice to secure crucial win over Liobians Seconds: Liobians Seconds 2-3 FC BRNESC
Dan Paton Reporting...
---
FC BRNESC maintained their place in the top four of LOBAL League Two with a hard-fought victory over Liobians Seconds, twice coming from behind to take victory.
Liobians were the underdogs heading into the game, having won just once in their previous five in the league, with their opponents having won five on the spin, and it was FC BRNESC who would have the first effort of the match, a low shot straight at the goalkeeper.
Yet after spending most of the opening stages in their own half, it was Liobians who made the breakthrough. A slick move down the left-hand side led to a shot which surprised the goalkeeper, squeezing into the net and giving the greens an unlikely lead.
FC BRNESC responded well and maintained the pressure on the Liobians goal, with the main threat coming from out on the right, numerous crosses just missing a red shirt. They then rattled the bar from a close-range free kick, and after recycling possession, somehow headed over after a ball was swung in from the left.
It was a real head in hands moment, and just moments later FC BRNESC were once again wondering how they weren’t level, this time stealing possession from a goal kick and working the ball out wide to the right. One on one with the keeper but again the ball fizzed wide as Liobians continued to cling onto their one goal advantage.
Frustrations perhaps got the better of FC BRNESC at times, with a few flare ups and kick outs needing to be calmed down by the referee, but eventually they did finally find their equaliser.
Another ball from the right finally found a red shirt at the back post, who stabbed an effort goalwards which took a wicked deflection, wrongfooting the goalkeeper as it spun into the top left corner, as the sides went into halftime level, the least FC BRNESC deserved.
After not really troubling their opponents since taking the lead, Liobians came out firing in the second half, as straight from kick-off they funnelled the ball down the left and crashed a shot off the underside of the bar, with the referee deciding it only bounced on the line, not over it.
They would retake the lead just moments later however, as a free kick was played to the left, where a shot could only be parried into an onrushing green shirt to prod it over the line to make it 2-1 to Liobians.
FC BRNESC again found themselves behind after spending most of the first half searching for their equaliser, however this time they wouldn’t need nearly as long to restore parity.
After winning a corner from the kick-off, Liobians cleared but in the second phase the ball was played out wide to the right and swept in low, getting a little flick from a red shirt to take it beyond the goalkeeper and draw FC BRNESC level again.
Both sides then pushed on for a winner, but nothing clear cut for either team could be created as the game ticked towards full time, but almost out of nowhere, FC BRNESC found a way.
A ball once again from out wide evaded every green shirt and was tucked in to the despair of Liobians who’d worked so hard defensively throughout the match, but few could argue that it was FC BRNESC who deserved to walk away with all three points.
The result leaves FC BRNESC fourth, however with significantly less games played than all those around them, they could yet rise further up the table. Liobians Seconds remain in eighth place, but again have a few games in hand to attempt to climb up the LOBAL League Two table.
