Robertsons get to be Xmas number 1 and go top of the charts

In the A Division match of the day against the two in form teams Robertson Scaffolding and the Jolly steward, Robertsons reached top position to make it a not so Jolly Christmas time for the Jolly Steward. The 2-0 win for Robertsons meant they are top of the league going into the Christmas and New Year Period, if the Jolly Steward had won they could have went top themselves.

Two influential players Christie Elliott and Dan Smith were unavailable due to holiday and work commitments, but to be missing such quality players just shows how strong the young Robertsons squad is as they were not really missed.

Robertsons lost the toss but the Jolly Steward elected to allow Robertsons to play with the strong wind in their favour and Robertson Scaffolding took advantage as they capitalised by taking a 2-0 lead in the first half.

Robertsons utilised the long throw expertise of Ian Hudson as this tactic led to the opening goal as the ball fell to Brian Johnson to slot the ball past Gary Burt in the Jolly Steward goal. Just before halftime Robertsons leading goal scorer Stevie Stephenson pounced to score with a clinical finish.

In the second half the Jolly Steward just could not get passed the resolute Robertson defence and the long ball tactic of trying to find the experienced Rob Caizley proved unsuccessful. Ryan Docherty in the Robertson goal cut out every cross that came into the box and thwarted every little half chance the Jolly Steward mounted. Chrissy Sinclair was deservedly awarded star man.

Robertsons 2-0 victory means they have opened up a two point lead and have the luxury of two games in hand of the chasing pack.
