MATCH REPORT 19/08/07

Boldon Colts made a winning start to their campaign against Jolly Steward after promotion from the B division last season. Kicking with a strong wind at their backs they fell behind to a well taken Anthony Smith goal. Boldon?s equalizer came from the most unlikely source when a Jolly Stewart attack broke down and Boldon keeper Alan Greener punted the ball up front and win assisted it bounced over the Jolly Steward keeper and into the net. Last season?s top scorer Shaun Carroll then lobbed the keeper to put Boldon 2-1 ahead, then from a wide angle Scott Hendry?s cross come shot made it 3-1. Jolly Steward hit straight back as Anthony Smith lashed home his second, however Boldon regained their two goal lead at the break as Stuart Darville back heeled their fourth. The start of the second half saw Jolly Steward start strongly as they now had the advantage of the wind and they reduced the arrears to 4-3 as Anthony Smith completed his hat trick. Boldon were forced to defend deep in their own half but had the pace to break quickly and that is exactly what happened when the speedy John Bailey crossed for Scott Hendry to head home his second, shortly afterwards Shaun Carroll made it 6-3 from another Bailey cross. In the dying minutes Michael Ord completed the scoring as he got a fourth for Jolly Steward.
