Overthorpe Sports Club 2-0 Tingley Athletic

Overthorpe Sports Club overcame Tingley Athletic in an all West Yorkshire League Wheatley Cup Final.

Both teams were supported by an enthusiastic crowd as 463 spectators repsonded to the Associations challenge to attract 500 to the match.

Overthorpe took the lead within seven minutes when James Heeley finished a neat passage of play around the Tingley Athletic penalty box. Shortly after, the Tingley goalkeeper, Shaun Broadbent suffered an injury which prevented him from continuing. Overthorpe continued to press and were rewarded with a second goal when Ryan Turner scored on the stroke of half-time.

Tingley rallied in the second half and created some good chances but could not find a breakthrough so it was Overthorpe who held out to win the Wheatley Cup for the seventh occasion.

The presentation to players and match officials were made by Heavy Woollen FA Life Member, Arthur Aveyard.
