Almost 100 players took part in Cumberland FA’s first monthly league fixtures of season 2015/16, with seven teams playing in the Over 40s events across the County.

On the morning of Sunday 25th October, teams from West Cumbria played their fixtures on the 3G astro turf at Netherhall Community Sports Centre.

Bush Wanderers Vets FC 2-0 Hall Park Hotel Vets FC

Later on the same day, teams from East Cumbria played their first fixtures at Carlisle South Sport Arena in Harraby. With 3 teams playing in the East based group, the teams each played two fixtures as the darkness fell on the new facility.

All fixtures in Cumberland FA’s Over 40s are 11 v 11 with games 35 minutes each way and officiated by a Cumberland FA registered referee.

Paul Jennings, Football Development Officer for Cumberland FA said “All games were played in a fantastic spirit on and off the pitch and even though games are friendlies, all players still want to compete and win but in an appropriate manner.”

The Over 40’s league is supported by the Cumbria Veterans League and all results and future fixtures can be viewed on Cumbria Veterans League Full-Time Website in both the East Group 40+ and West Group 40+ divisions.

The next round of fixtures will take place on Sunday 15th November before a break over the Christmas period with fixtures re-commencing in the New Year:
• Sunday 24th January 2016
• Sunday 21st February 2016
• Sunday 20th March 2016
• Sunday 17th April 2016

Paul Jennings continued “the over 40’s football provides a great opportunity for players to continue playing the game they love in an environment that suits their needs and with players of similar age.”

There are still opportunities for NEW teams to enter the Over 40s programme – the ‘friendly’ nature of the fixtures allows new teams to enter throughout the season.
