Round Up 24 September 2011

CARLSBERG WEST CHESHIRE A.F.L.
MATCH ROUND UP W/E 24.9.2011

Ashville the Carlsberg West Cheshire League’s only representative in the FA Vase cleared the first hurdle by defeating West Didsbury and Chorlton 2-0 in Saturday’s 2nd qualifying round tie. The hosts got an immediate grip on the game when from their 1st attack recent recruit Jay Clare crossed for Chris Barrow to head home. Within 15 minutes Barrow had repeated the feat with Carl Maughan the provider. In the Pyke Cup Preliminary round extra time was looming when Ellesmere Port’s Richie Feightman popped up with the game’s only goal to send opponents West Kirby crashing out of the competition at the first attempt while Heswall needed penalties to make progress in the Cheshire Amateur Cup after being held 0-0 by 3rd Division Helsby. In the Liverpool County Challenge Cup Southport Trinity lost out on spot kicks to Ford Motors following a 1-1 draw but South Liverpool advanced to round 2 when Neil Fisher, 2, David O’Leary and David Astles netted in the 4-2 eclipse of Page Celtic.
In midweek Ashville enhanced their title prospects when a 2-0 home success saw off Southport Trinity’s challenge thanks to strikes by Matty Cass and new boy Carl Maughan. Led by an Anthony Felton hat trick Newton stayed in the hunt with a 6-2 mauling of hosts Willaston. A Bradley Hough double and a Dave Thompson strike completed the total while James Gardner and Ian Cross netted for Willaston who slip back to bottom slot as a result. A Paul Pearson penalty was enough to secure maximum reward for Marine Reserves at Blacon Y.C. while Christleton’s Steve Finlay netted the game’s solitary goal against Marshalls. Shaun Holmes and Shaun Turner struck for Cammell Lairds Reserves as they shared 4 goals with Mossley Hill Athletic [Barry Coventry and Ryan Powell]. There was another 2-2 scoreline at Chester Nomads when the hosts registered through Kieron Smith and Ilya Haycock with Andy Lloyd and an own goal counting for neighbouring Upton AA.
Hale march on in Division 2 after Paul Hart and Sean Calland bagged doubles in the 8-2 thrashing of West Kirby Reserves while 2 goals in as many minutes midway through the 1st half sent Beb Athletic [Graham Carvell, 2, Wayne Hulse] on the way to their 3-0 defeat of struggling Mallaby. A Danny McGill double was the backbone of New Brighton’s odd goal in 5 win at Capenhurst Villa [Mike Urmston, Andy Crawford] while Lee Dermody and Owen Davies steered Bronze Social to a valuable 2-1 victory over Heswall Reserves [Steve Abott]. There were 3-3 draws at Marshalls Reserves [Ollie Roberts, Steve Kinnear, Danny Ventre] and Richmond Raith Rovers [Rob Madine,2, Paul Gouthwaite] against Manor Athletic [Leigh Carter, Phil Evans, Sean Murphy] and Maghull Reserves [Steve Cummins, 3] respectively.
Mersey Royal surged to the top of Division 3 after gaining a 2-0 verdict at Ellesmere Port Reserves where Steve Weaver and Lee Moores found the net but New Brighton Reserves [Patrick O’ Sullivan] suffered a set back when going down 2-1 at home to Capenhurst Villa Reserves who had Matty Lancashire and Damien McGinnigle on the mark. Draw specialists Christleton Reserves [Andy Warburton, Adam Wilson] shared the spoils with Belfry who were indebted to Liam Langley for the total while in contrast to their seniors Hale Reserves remain without a point following their 6-0 drubbing at Chester Nomads Reserves. Another side yet to get off the mark is Neston Nomads who despite efforts from Kevin Jackson and Thomas Gould were outgunned 5-2 by Mossley Hill Athletic Reserves who featured double marksmen in Phil Duncan and John Daly.
Youth Division leaders Maghull [Scott Baker] surrendered their 100% record when drawing 1-1 with Finn Harps [Scott Dunning] while Allerton’s Connor McCarthy netted twice in the 7-0 defeat of REMYCA United.
