Round up 28 August 2010

CARLSBERG WEST CHESHIRE AFL
MATCH ROUND UP W/E 28th August

West Kirby head the Division 1 table following the latest round of Carlsberg West Cheshire League fixtures. Chay Dysart and Rob Courtney struck for Kirby in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat of Christleton [Andy Roundtree] and the victory backed up their 3-1 success in a hotly contested local derby at Newton 3 days earlier. Maghull also recorded a 3-1 mid week triumph when overcoming Marine Reserves but dropped their 1st points when Danny Dulson’s strike was cancelled out by an Ali Asgari effort for Vauxhall Reserves who had enjoyed a 6-0 home victory over Blacon YC in midweek. Champion side Cammell Laird Reserves [Paul Wheeler]claimed their 1st point with a 1-1 draw at Heswall [David Swaine] on Wednesday but then lost out to 3rd placed Helsby who had Adam Newbolt & Matty Johnson finding the net in Saturday’s 2-0 victory. Newton still seek their 1st win after 2 fine individual goals from Dominic Holden spearheaded Friday’s 2-1 win for Willaston who 2 days earlier had finished with 9 men when going down by the same scoreline at Ellesmere Port. Division 1 newboys Marshalls collected their 1st maximum as Sean Robinson [2] Richard Jones & John McGaveren posted in the 4-0 defeat of Ellesmere Port and Heswall were also 4 goal men when David Swaine, Danny McNicholas, Paul Dulson & Jamie Kenyon netted as they overcame luckless Blacon YC 4-1. Newly promoted Southport Trinity [Chris Pardoe] lie 5th after gaining a point at Upton AA [Simon Andrews] which backed up Wednesday’s 2-1 home victory over Marshalls.
Although inactive on Saturday Ashville front the Division 2 promotion race with their 4th successive win coming on Monday when Lee Bridge & Danny Edwards were on the mark as they edged out West Kirby Reserves [Kris Hesketh] 2-1. Lee Forsyth posted the games only goal for 2nd placed New Brighton at Heswall Reserves while Jay Clare netted in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with visiting Mallaby [Steve Abbott] who move into 3rd spot as a result. Chester Nomads and Mossley Hill Athletic narrowly failed to gain Division 1 status last time round and Nomads emerged as victors by the odd goal in 5 when the sides met on Saturday with Athletic surprisingly remaining in bottom place. Free scoring Paul Hart struck twice for Hale as they shared 8 goals with host side Beb Athletic who were gaining their 1st point of the season.
In Division 3 Mossley Hill Athletic Reserves, Manor Athletic and Helsby Reserves lead the way with 13 points with Helsby dropping their 1st points of the campaign in the 2-2 draw with New Brighton Reserves. Manor followed up Monday’s 5-2 win over Ellesmere Port Reserves by easing to a 3-0 victory at Ashville Reserves with Lloyd Ithell being on the mark in each encounter. Mossley had Paul Wells on target in their single goal success over Marshalls Reserves and completed a successful week with Friday’s 4-1 defeat of Upton AA Reserves. Merseyside Police registered their 1st win since returning to the League with a 5-2 win over Christleton Reserves.
Halewood Town remain at the top of the Youth Division despite the midweek 4-4 draw with 2nd placed REMYCA United who also shared the spoils in a 3-3 draw with Helsby on Saturday. Runcorn Linnets were the week’s top scorers as Danny Hesketh grabbed an impressive hat trick in the 8-2 rout of Mayfield.
