TRIBUNE CHALLENGE CUP - SURPISES !!!
16 year old Junior Donnelly scores his first senior goal as Bedworth Eagles execute League Two giant killing.
League Four youngsters Bedworth Eagles are through to Round 2 of the TRIBUNE CHALLENGE CUP after comfortably beating League Two side Ashby Road Sports 5-0. Axel Edie scored 2 of those with the others coming from Harry Woodley, Logan Constable on his debut and pick of the bunch, a first goal in senior football for 16 year old Junior Donnelly.
The flourishing young guns can now look forward to hosting the winner of Lord Nelson vs Barwell Cricketers in the next round.
Elsewhere, last seasons winners Wykin Social got their defence of the cup off to a winning start as a Matt Burt hat trick helped them on their way to a 7-1 win over The Wharf Inn. 2 goals from Archie Gallacher and singles from Ryan Cheshire and Will Groocock completed the scoring for Wykin who will now face Royal Oak Hartshill next. Frank Mayne scored for Wharf.
Newdigate United saw off Premier League Leaders Ambleside 2-0 thanks to goals from Dlaine James and Kai Smith. They can now look forward to a 2nd Round game against SS Bulls Head who secured a 3-2 win over Burbage and Huncote. Josh Atkinson’s penalty in stoppage time won the tie for Bull after Ryan Brightwell’s earlier double. Sam Blower and Maverick Martin scored the goals for Burbage and Huncote.
FC Burbage beat higher league opposition for the second consecutive round. This time Bedworth Bank of League Three were their victims. 2 goals each for Jacob Wright and Harry Johnson backed up by a Matt Snow single was enough to secure them a 5-3 win. Kai Messenger, James Harris and Zak Bhara scored the goals for Bank.
They will face fellow League Four club Bedworth Liberal in Round Two after Ryan Jones hit 4 in a 5-3 win over Horseshoes. Will Roe completed the scoring for Libs. James Hall, Ben Franklin and Luke Wilson were on target for Horseshoes.
One of the games of the day was perhaps a local derby between White Horse Atherstone and Witherley United. Luke Taylor gave Witherley the lead before Jordan Coles equalised for White Horse. Miles Newton hit what turned out to be the winner for Witherley as the game finished 2-1.
That sets up an all Premier League 2nd Round tie against Haunchwood Sports after goals from Marcus Southwell, Ben Collins, Mark Williams and Mitch Piggon saw them capture a 4-1 win over Athletico Duke. Ben Bates scored the Duke goal.
League Four are well represented in Round Two this season and Attleborough Royal Oak would be another side to confirm their place as they edged out Chetwynd Chess of League Three 3-2. Jacob Bryan scored a double and Alex Lock the other for Attleborough with Daniel Law and Joe Smith-Walker on target for Chetwynd. Attleborough now face a trip to the winner of Acorn and Swan Dive in Round Two.
Griff and Coton Manor were able to edge out Hearty Goodfellow 4-3 thanks to goals from 2 goals from Ryan Skidmore and a goal a piece for Badru Rajab and Callum Drake. Jonni Biddle hit 2 and Danny Moreton the other for Hearty. Griff will now host Red Lion Barwell in the next round.
The only tie of the round to go to penalties was at Pauls Land as Royal Oak Hartshill and Grendon played out a 2-2 draw. Harry Bartram and Toby Bartram scored for the Hartshill side. Steven Jakovlevs and Jack Burrows found the net for Grendon.
Royal Oak Hartshill went on to take the tie 5-3 on penalties who now face a trip to take on current holders Wykin Social in round 2.
The Pete Smith Memorial Cup this season will start with a group format with each team playing each other once. The first game saw Drayton Reserves pick up a 4-1 win over Hearty Goodfellow Reserves. Reece Rawlings scored 2 for Drayton with Liam Taylor-Smith and Ashley Clark adding the singles after Gareth Orr gave Hearty the lead.
In league action, Travs moved back to the top of MARK BLAIR FINANCE LEAGUE TWO after a hard fought 4-0 win over Red Lion Barwell. Ethan Looker scored 2 and the singles coming from Joe Miles and Daniel Harris.
Hinckley Wanderers and Ambleside Reserves have played out an 8 goal thriller that ended 4-4. Jamie Roe, Mitch Elson, Kobi Jones and Sam Knowles with his first goal for the club were on target for the Hinckley side. Ambleside goals coming from Lee Wilkins x 2, Eric Allen and George Lindley.
Sam Hall and Steve Hall scored the goal to earn Crows Nest Sports a 2-1 win over Acorn in NUNEATON TROPHIES LEAGUE THREE. The win sees Crows Nest climb to 6th in the table. Ben Thomson scored the Acorn goal.
Lamb and Flag are the new leaders of RICHARD DUNN LEAGUE FOUR after they beat Griff and Coton Reserves 4-0. Regan Ellis-Stringer scored a brace with the singles coming from Jude Barnett and Bradley Bates.
Ex-Servicemen Bedworth Reserves made it back to back wins as goals from Lennon Jones double and Dave Baynham was enough to secure them a 3-1 win over Attleborough Sports. The win sees the Bedworth climb to 7th. Gary Sparkes scored for Attleborough Sports.
