Matchday Report

Report for Week Ending Saturday 16.11.2019

The weather played havoc again with our fixtures with three of the scheduled games being lost to unfit pitches.

Three games did take place however, one of the outstanding Quarter Final Amos Cup games and also two League games.

The Cup game saw Mersea Island Reserves welcome Langham Lodgers to the Glebe, and it was the visitors that left the 2-1 victors. Netting the Mersea effort was Thomas Rix. Langham will now play Sporting Rebels in the first of the Semi-Finals.

On the League front, the third and fourth placed teams, Abbey Fields and Oyster Reserves were playing each other with both looking to close the gap on the top two, Ramsey & Mistley 1st team and Sporting Rebels who were both without games. Third placed Abbey Fields hosted this match and against the run of play took the lead on twenty-seven minutes when Joe Durbridge beat his defender on the right to slot home at the near post. Three minutes later Oyster Reserves were back level as Daniel Rampton slotted home the first of his two penalties. Right on half time Abbey had the chance to level with a penalty of their own but Rhys Callely saw his shot well saved by Oyster keeper Daniel Cowan. So, at the break it was 1-1. Oyster playing with ten men throughout the second half took the lead on sixty-two minutes when Daniel Rampton put away his second penalty of the game. Five minutes later they mad the game safe with a thirty-five-yard Ryan Christianson blockbuster; although there was still time for Rhys Callely to reduce the arears to 2-3 as he headed home. Oyster remain in fourth spot just four points behind the leaders but crucially have games in hand on both of the two leaders.

The other League game featured Tiptree Engaine ‘A’ hosting the bottom side Ramsey & Mistley Reserves who were just two places and a point below them. It was the away side that left the victors with a 3-1 win to be the third away side of the day to record a victory. The win moving Ramsey & Mistley Reserves of the bottom and up into sixth place.
