Report for Week Ending Saturday 01.02.2020

It was back to League action for our Clubs this week.

League leaders Sporting Rebels were at mid table Tiptree Engaine, and playing against the wind took the lead on thirty-two minutes when Martin Mina was allowed time and space to control an Alfie Towsey cross in the area before hitting home. Sporting held onto this lead through to the break despite Tiptree creating chances to equalise which they were unable to take. Seven minutes after the restart after a break down the left and crossed the ball and in trying to clear Matthew Coppin could only turn the ball into his own net to give Sporting a 2-0 lead. It was 3-0 on seventy-five minutes as Sean James hit home from twenty yards, and ten minutes later it was 4-0 as substitute Harry Cobb swept home a cross from another substitute, Tommy Lee Morgan. On eighty-eight minutes another substitute Tommy Rose completed the scoring and a 5-0 victory with a thirty-five-yard effort. Third placed Langham Lodgers were at home to Abbey Fields who were fifth, and eased to a 5-2 victory. Fourth placed Ramsey & Mistley 1st XI were also at home, against third from bottom Tollesbury Reserves, and also hit five goals in their 5-1 win. Ramsey took the lead on ten minutes through Ben Allington after a one on one with the Tollesbury keeper. Lee Sharp made it 2-0 on twenty-two minutes with a back post header from a corner and two minutes later Ben Allington added his second of the game with a fifteen-yard effort, before Louis Pipe netted for Tollesbury leaving the half time score as 3-1. After the break Tom Farthing increased the Ramsey lead to three and a 4-1 score line, netting in the sixtieth minute, and with five minutes left Christopher Stratton slotted home to round of the scoring and give Ramsey a 5-1 victory.

In the mid table clash the Ramsey & Mistley Reserve side hosting Mersea Island Reserves, had the second 5-2 victory of the day. On their score sheet it was Gary Merchant and Brian Seager with a brace apiece and Liam Winter; whilst on the Mersea score sheet it was Matt Capon and Darren Clasby. In the bottom of the table clash, after leading 1-0 at the break, Stanway Athletic Reserves jumped up four places following their 5-1 victory over bottom side Parkeston Welfare Park. On their score sheet was Isaac Lewis, Leon Brinkley, Samuel Hunt, Chris Pottle and an opposition own goal.

Second placed Oyster Reserves were without a game today, as their game against Stoke by Nayland was called off on the Monday, due to Stoke by Nayland being unable to raise a side.
