Report for Week Ending Saturday 11.01.2020

Five League matches were scheduled this week.

Leaders Oyster Reserves were away at Sporting Rebels at Plough Corner, Clacton in a third versus top game, which predictably ended in a draw. It was 1-1 at the break and 3-3 at the end of full time. On target for Oyster were Courtney Clarke, Ross Pearson and Daniel Rampton. Second placed Ramsey & Mistley 1st XI were at home at Ramsey Recreation Ground hosting fourth from bottom Stoke by Nayland. Ramsey ran out the 4-1 victors.

The Ramsey & Mistley Reserve side entertained second from bottom Parkeston Welfare Park at Furze Hills in a local derby, in a match that saw eight goals. Playing with the wind in the first half Ramsey rattled in three gaols without reply to lead 3-0 at the break. Peter Wilson netted after just six minutes hitting home from the edge of the area following a corner. It was 2-0 on twenty-two minutes as Gary Merchant capitalised on a defensive mix up to score. The third goal came on forty-three minutes as Jordan Sayers shot home into the bottom corner from just outside the area. Parkeston pulled a goal back from the penalty spot three minutes after the restart when Shaun Cook scored. The three goal Ramsey advantage was restored just a minute later when Jimmy Morrison turned home a headed clearance from the Parkeston keeper. 4-1 became 5-1 on fifty-five minutes with a forty-yard effort from right back Luke Byrne, and three minutes later it was 6-1 as a Tom Allen free kick crept in at the far post. Ramsey rounded of the scoring on sixty-nine minutes when Gary Merchant scored a breakaway goal for an emphatic Ramsey 7-1 victory.

Third from bottom Stanway Athletic Reserves suffered a 5-0 home defeat against fourth placed Langham Lodgers at Philip Morant School. Langham who now move up to third following the Sporting Rebels and Oyster Reserves draw.

The other game saw Abbey Fields take on Tiptree Engaine ‘A’ at Birch Park, ended in a tight 3-2 victory for the home side.

Both Mersea Island Reserves and Tollesbury Reserves were without a game due to the high midday tide at Mersea.
