Matchday Report

Report for Saturday 03.09.2016

There were eight matches this week, all League with three games in the Premier Division and five in Division One.

In the Premiership Harwich Rangers move into second place following their 4-1 home victory over Oyster, with Chris Johnson getting a brace, and Leroy Eade and substitute Andrew Hammett the other two. It was 1-1 at the break with James Rutter netting for Oyster, before Harwich settled the match with three second half goals. Nayland Rangers are fourth after a narrow 2-1 home victory over Mistley courtesy of Dominic Turnball & Kieron Pearce goals. The other game in the top division between New Field and Sporting Rebels finished as a 3-3 draw, in a game that probably represented a fair result between these two sides. New Field fell behind to two goals after a slow start, before James Reeves made it 1-2 before the break. An improved second half saw James Reeve make the score line 2-2., before Sporting were awarded a penalty which they netted before New Field were awarded one of their own which Aaron Silliker converted, leaving the final result 3-3, in a game well refereed by Referee Mark Gell.

Abbey Fields top Division One, having one both of their opening games, this week by a 5-2 score line away at New Field Reserves, after being 2-0 up at the break. On the New Field score sheet were Adam Horn and Adam Lawrence. This was a good clean game contested by two fairly even teams, although the score line did not really reflect how the match went. Abbey Fields converted their chances whereas New Field failed to do so. It was considered a promising start for New Field Reserves even though the result did not show it. The match was well refereed by Referee, Phil Barham. Elsewhere Cavendish Reserves were the day’s top scorers, thumping Beacon Hill Rovers ‘A’ 13-1 away; Matthew Rout getting the Beacon Hill consolation effort. Oyster Reserves were another of the away victors, coming away from Marks Tey with a 7-2 victory, after being 4-0 up at the break. On their scoresheet were Adam Jay and Matt Stephenson with doubles, with Ryan Mason, Thomas Rix and Ronan Theil netting the other three. Riverbank Athletic won 5-0 at Stoke by Nayland with five different goal scorers. Both teams battled hard in the first half with both Riverbank and Stoke missing chances, but neither side could find the net. Stoke came closest, hitting the post from a good shot by Jack Gaunt; so 0-0 at half time. It stayed that way until the seventieth minute before Riverbank broke the deadlock through Graham Abols. They went further ahead five minutes later through a Keiran Daniels thirty-yard effort. Stoke after having a goal disallowed for offside were forced into making two changes through injury, and heads dropped. Riverbank scoring three goals in the last ten minutes through Luke Goodson, Lee Fox with a superb volley and Dean Stone. It was a well battled game considering the score line, and credit must be given to Riverbank for their sportsmanship. The divisions other game saw Tiptree Park Reserves make it five away victories from the five games played in the division today, leaving Monkwick Wanderers the 1-0 victors through an eighty fifth minute Charlie Beal goal.
